Young Rennes forward James Lea Siliki has revealed he has dreamt of playing for Manchester United all his life.
The 21-year-old striker made his debut for the Ligue 1 side at the end of the 2016/17 season and has represented France at under-19 level.
Lea Siliki admitted it was Man United he dreamt about as a young footballer, watching the Sir Alex Ferguson-era sides dominate English football.
“When I was younger, in my room, I dreamt of big games,” he said to Ouest France.
“I’m a professional footballer, it’s an obsession ever since I could understand. I dreamt of Manchester United, of their stadium, of their colours.
“I grew up with the Ferguson years, the Boxing Day games on Canal+, the 95th minute wins,” he continued.
Lea Siliki also rattled off the names of a number of United greats, including the famous Yorke-Cole partnership.
“I grew up with the Yorke-Cole partnership,” he explained.
“Mikael Silvestre, Louis Saha, Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo… Ryan Giggs was a monument until the very end.”
United have had a number of key players from France in the past, and still do. Patrice Evra was an outstanding left-back for so many years while Silvestre and Saha were two brilliant squad players.
Now, Paul Pogba is the main man at the club, and there’s no doubt that United will be the team being watched by many young French kids looking up to their idol.
