This Manchester United player will captain the club within a year, claims Jamie Carragher

Jamie Carragher has backed Paul Pogba to be Manchester United’s next captain.

The French midfielder was sent off after a world-class display in midfield for the Reds in a superb 3-1 win away to Arsenal.

He had made Man United’s third goal, storing down the right flank in a pacey counter-attack, holding off a defender, moving past him with great strength before crossing for Jesse Lingard to tap into an open net.

He had been dominant in midfield and showed his skill constantly in United’s counter attacks, as well as controlling the ball in in Zidane-esque fashion at one point.

Despite his sending off, Carragher reckons Pogba will take over the captaincy from Michael Carrick very soon.

“[Pogba’s] certainly upped his game two or three levels this season,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“The stats speak for themselves. He probably is Manchester United’s most important player now.

“I think maybe towards the end of this season or maybe the start of next season… I think he’ll be captain of the club.”

Pogba is the best outfield player at United. He captained the side in the UEFA Champions League against FC Basel, the game in which he picked up an injury which ruled him out for two months.

He has shown his leadership qualities, his mentality, a winning one, is perfect to captain a side, and he is one of the most likeable players in the side, is good with the media, can handle anything thrown at him and is undoubtedly a good representative of the club.

Meanwhile, he is also a guaranteed starter for most games in the season as the best player in the side. He seems the perfect candidate for the captaincy and it appears to be only a matter of time.
