Rooney claims this Man Utd youngster can become the league's best

Former Manchester United player Wayne Rooney has claimed that young Frenchman Anthony Martial can become one of the Premier League’s best players.

Rooney, who left United this season for Everton, played alongside Martial since his arrival from AS Monaco.

The Englishman didn’t feature for the Red Devils regularly during Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge and the lack of game time eventually got to him.

Since moving back to his former club, Wayne has had a decent amount of game time, making 15 Premier League appearance, scoring a respectable nine goals.

The stats can leave the striker feeling as though his decision was vindicated with Everton also currently in the middle of the table.

“Anthony Martial, ability wise, is incredible but it's a matter of how you get the best out of him. Knowing Anthony the way I know him, I think if you can get the best out of him he's up there ability wise with the best there are in the league."

Anthony Martial meanwhile has had his own great season, benefitting from a competitive relationship with Marcus Rashford.

The two youngsters have had to fight for the same position out on the left flank with Jose Mourinho selecting whoever was fit and firing.

In the Premier League Martial’s managed six goals and three assists in 16 appearances, playing just over 700 minutes worth of football.

In his debut season the Frenchman was as impressive as any player but last season saw him suffer from a range of issues.

He has to deal with second season syndrome, a new manager in Mourinho and personal family problems that were widely publicised.

This season though he’s come back firing and even admitted that he’s hungrier and more focussed than ever before.

At the age of 22, Anthony has plenty to prove to become the best in the league but with his potential, there’s no stopping him.
