Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has praised Manchester United’s Juan Mata after the Spaniard’s scored the club’s first goal in the match vs Leicester City.
The Red Devils took on the Foxes in the hopes of keeping some form of title challenge alive but ultimately fell short of the three points.
Leicester managed to open the scoring through Jamie Vardy but a Mata brace helped United turn the result around.
However, the drama wasn’t over yet as Harry Maguire popped up in the last few moments of injury time to score an equaliser for the home side.
Despite the disappointment with the result, Juan was one of the few players who could hold their head high after the match and Redknapp lauded him during it.
According to The Sport Review, Jamie said: “His brain is a computer. He realises there’s nowhere he can go [for his first goal]. He’s got to go low, and he just stuns the ball into the floor through the defender’s legs.
“Juan Mata is probably the only player on that pitch who’s capable of that. It was a brilliant goal.”
The Spaniard hasn’t had the easiest of days under Jose Mourinho’s management but is still a relatively consistent player.
Reports and rumours consistently swirl Juan with United often linked with other attacking midfielders or wingers who are supposedly aiming for his position in the starting XI.
Quite often Mata guarantees the club’s he plays for double figures in total for goals and assists but is seemingly always expendable.
Of course the player’s history with Mourinho doesn’t help matters but his quality should be respected.
Mesut Ozil has been heavily linked with the Red Devils and a move for the German would almost certainly spell the end for the Spaniard’s time at Old Trafford.
Jose even brought in Henrikh Mkhitaryan last season despite Juan Mata‘s presence at Manchester United so the question has to be asked- just what does he have to do to not be sold?
