Former Man Utd player slams the club's fans for reaction

Former Manchester United player Paul Ince has criticised the club’s fans after their reactions to the loss and draw to Bristol City and Leicester City respectively.

United faced Championship side Bristol in the Carabao Cup and were surprisingly knocked out by the minnows after conceding a last minute winner.

Fans were shocked due to the strength of the side that faced the home team and were dealt another blow by drawing to Leicester soon after.

The Foxes opened the scoring but a Juan Mata brace saw the Red Devils lead the match until Harry Maguire scored at the death to share the spoils.

Some supporters had knee jerk reaction to the results, claiming that manager Jose Mourinho was setting the club backwards again and Ince called them all out.

According to Express, Paul said: “What I’ve seen from Man United fans on social media, reacting to their losses to Man City and Bristol City, is just far too dramatic.

“Yes, I can understand why they are frustrated. They’re right to be, but to call for Jose Mourinho’s head is nothing short of ludicrous.

“The inevitable reaction to the loss [to Bristol City] was, of course, for fans to completely overreact and suggest that Mourinho is taking the club in the wrong direction. I mean, come on. Wake up.”

Mourinho has been under a microscope since the result vs fierce rivals Manchester City with reports that the board are even holding off on offering him an extension to his deal.

The Portuguese manager’s contract runs out after the end of the next season and it appears as though Manchester United are willing to play the waiting game.

Perhaps tellingly, United were keen on tying Jose down at the start of the season when the team were firing on all cylinders but are now less motivated to do so and don’t seem so eager to back their manager.

Conditions are tense around Old Trafford at the moment and it would certainly help the players and manager if fans were to get behind the team in their moment of difficulty.
