Manchester United midfielder insists title race isn't over despite FOURTEEN point gap to Man City

Nemanja Matic has insisted the Premier League title race is definitely still on despite Manchester United currently trailing rivals Manchester City by 14 points.

A 4-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening for Man City extended their lead on the Reds, though Man United can reduce it to 11 points once more if they beat West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United allowed City to march ahead into an almost unassailable lead with a poor performance in last weekend’s Manchester derby, which they lost 2-1.

But Matic believes the title race isn’t over.

“The gap is big, obviously 11 points is a lot, but the league is not finished,” Matic said, speaking to Sky Sports. “I’m sure there will be very interesting games until the end, and of course that they will drop some points. We will see what will happen.

“As I say there are still many games to play and I think that we are not out of the title race.”

Th Serbian midfieder, who was a surprise signing from Premier League champions Chelsea this summer for around £40m, did concede that United must win almost every game remaining this season, having already dropped points to Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Stoke and Huddersfield Town.

“If we want to catch them, we have to win almost every game.

“But as we know, and as everyone knows, in the Premier League it is not always possible to win every game, but we will try to do that.”

City are six points better off at this stage of the season than last year’s champions Chelsea were at the same stage. United are doing better than last season, with more points, more wins and more goals scored, and fewer goals conceded. There’s no doubt Jose Mourinho’s side have improved, but City appear to be just to good at the moment.

Very few would hesitate in labelling City as one of the best teams in the world. United aren’t yet, Mourinho is still building his side, though he did take over at Old Trafford at the same time as Guardiola did at the Etihad.
