Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has vowed to stop criticising the club’s fans ahead of the derby vs rivals Manchester City.
The Red Devils take on the Sky Blues in an exciting clash at the Etihad stadium in a fixture that could potentially decide where the title ends up.
Most neutrals expect the Premier League to a be two horse race between the pair of Manchester clubs with the rest of England’s ‘top six’ underperforming in comparison.
Champions Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal have all been left in the wake of Pep Guardiola and Mourinho’s men.
Although the Portuguese manager has praised the United’s away fans previously, his criticism to the fans at Old Trafford rubbed some people the wrong way and he’s learnt his lesson.
According to Team Talk, Jose said: “I stop with that. I am not going to write any more words about it, I am not going to say any more words about it.
“We are paid to work and to work hard and to give the best we can, not to criticise fans and I am not going to say any words.
“Because it is the reality of things. I am not paid to come here and to make any comments or to ask for something from the fans.
“I am paid to try and give them happiness, which is what I try to do every day.”
Mourinho hasn’t had the best relationship with some sections of supporters but his criticism is fair to say the least.
Old Trafford is regularly packed to the brim with fans but that doesn’t necessarily result in the best footballing atmosphere.
Manchester United’s away support is largely thought of to be amongst the nation’s best for their constant noise and chants.
The home fans though tend to disappoint other than on huge occasions with the away section often heard over the club’s own fans.
The atmosphere at Old Trafford has declined so badly in recent years that the board attempted to solve the problem by creating a singing section in the stadium.
While that has certainly helped, it hasn’t completely elevated the home fan’s to the level of vocal support that the club’s away fans show on a regular basis.
