Juventus have rejected a package comprising of £70m and Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United for forward Paulo Dybala, according to reports.
Man United’s interest in the Argentine dates back to his time at Palermo but he decided to join up with Juventus in 2015 instead.
And he has since asserted himself as one of the best strikers in the world, claiming two league titles and netting 57 goals for the Old Lady in all competitions.
According to The Sun, United have seen an offer of £70m plus Mkhitaryan, who has failed to impress this season, rejected by the Serie A champions.
Those associated with Juventus has made it clear that Dybala will not leave for a big club elsewhere in Europe any time soon and the 24-year-old himself noted over the summer that he was happy in Turin.
In other words, United are barking up the wrong tree here. Dybala will most likely leave for Real Madrid when the time is right.
But their interest in a creative, dynamic attacking midfielder alongside a willingness to let Mkhitaryan go tells a wider, more important story: that Mourinho is gearing up to bring in a proper, internationally recognised No.10 capable of dominating the final third.
Mesut Ozil, Malcolm, Antoine Griezmann and Leon Goretzka are among the rumoured targets at this moment in time, but no clear front-runner has appeared as of yet.
