Mesut Ozil would prefer a move to Manchester United over Barcelona if he decides to leave Arsenal over the summer, according to reports.
Talks with Arsenal over a new contract started in March and appear to have stagnated over the last few months.
Ozil will have permission to speak with other clubs in January and Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in working with the playmaker once again after the pair developed a strong working relationship at Real Madrid.
And according to the Mail Online‘s Jack Gaughan, the German would prefer a reunion with Mourinho rather than moving back to La Liga next summer.
An offer worth £235,000 a week has already been rejected by Ozil, who wants something closer to £300,000 a week given that, at the age of 29, his next contract will be his last big one.
Mourinho will know that his current creative options are simply not good enough to compete with Manchester City and his first priority next summer has to be securing a player of Ozil’s calibre.
When you place the German in the right environment, give him freedom on the ball, and make him feel wanted – central, even – then there aren’t many better creative players in the world.
