Jose Mourinho was delighted with Jesse Lingard’s contribution off the substitutes bench in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Burnley.
The England international was brought on at half-time with the Reds trailing by two goals and scored a brace to rescue a point for Mourinho’s side.
It’s a second consecutive 2-2 draw for Man United in the Premier League after the same result at Leicester City a few days ago. In that game, Lingard had the chance to seal the result against 10-men as he rounded the goalkeeper, only to see his shot bounce back off the right post.
Mourinho was leased to see him bounce back from that disappointment.
“It is good for him after the feeling of his chance against Leicester with the open goal where he has the feeling of easy chance, 3-1, game over so it is a great feeling for the kid,” Mourinho said after the game.
Lingard now has six goals in his last seven games for United, becoming an increasingly important figure in the side. He didn’t start on Tuesday, with games coming thick and fast over the festive period.
Mourinho now needs to prepare his players for a game against Southampton on December 30th. :Lingard will likely be one of the first names on the teamsheet. He was vital in wins against Watford and Arsenal and his goalscoring form is the best of his career.
