Jose Mourinho has appeared to hint that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be allowed to leave Manchester United in January.
The Armenian was signed for just under £30million from German side Borussia Dortmund in 2016, one of Mourinho’s first signings at the club.
Questioned on the January transfer window, Mourinho implied that if a suitable offer is made for any of his players and they want to leave the club, they shall be allowed to do so.
“For the right price, that is my approach as a manager in case the club advise. Every player has a price,” Mourinho admitted.
“If a player is not happy and if a player brings with him a request with the number that we consider is a good number it happened with Memphis [Depay] and Morgan [Schneiderlin], I would never say no.”
Mkhitaryan has played just one game since the November international break, as a second-half substitute in a 1-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
Hence, he is the player that springs to mind when Mourinho talks of departures in January. The two players he references both left the club last January after being played very little in the opening half of the season.
However, the two transfers did leave United with worse squad depth after the window, with Mourinho signing no replacements.
Mkhitaryan started the season in good for, assisting prolifically in a fantastic goalscoring run for United as a team. His final product was excellent, even in poor performances.
But as the season has progressed, the poor performances have continued but the assists and goals have dried up. He has rightfully been replaced in the side by Jesse Lingard and reportedly has requested talks with Mourinho about his future.
