David de Gea has reportedly told Real Madrid he is happy at Manchester United amid continued interest from the Spanish side.
The Man United goalkeeper came close to joining Los Blancos in 2015, but for a late paperwork mishap halting the proposed move that would have seen Costa Rican shotstopper Keylor Navas move the other way.
Instead of joining Real Madrid, De Gea signed a new five-year deal at United. As the European champions continue to pursue their main goalkeeper target, it’s been reported that club President Florentino Perez has set a deadline of this summer for the move which will have no dragged on for four years.
De Gea, according to El Confidencial, told his agent Jorge Mendes when questioned over his future after another approach from Perez: “Real Madrid? I’m the goalkeeper of Manchester United and Spain. What more could I ask for?”
If true, it’s a pretty categorical refusal that he wants to move back to his home city of Madrid. And it’s something United fans will be delighted to hear.
De Gea is one of United’s two world-class players, alongside Paul Pogba, and utterly irreplaceable. No other goalkeeper of De Gea’s quality is attainable for United, mainly because De Gea is one of the world’s best two goalkeepers, competing with Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer for that honour.
The Spaniard is reportedly content at United due to the support of the fans and is enjoying living in Manchester now.
