Arsenal have edged ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Bayern Leverkusen youngster Leon Bailey next month, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho has been keeping a close eye on the winger, who has spoken effusively of Man United in the past, since his days at Belgian side Genk.
He joined Bayer Leverkusen over the summer and has been a revelation on the left wing, claiming seven goals and four assists in just ten starts.
But according to the Mirror‘s Steve Bates, Arsenal are in pole position to sign the Jamaican, who has also attracted interest from Chelsea, after dispatching scouts to watch him twice in one week.
Mourinho has clearly pin-pointed Man United’s lack of creativity in the final third as an area he wants to improve as soon as possible, expressing interest in Malcolm and Christian Pulisic in recent weeks as well.
And Bailey likewise fits the bill: a rancorous, slippery, driven presence on the ball, blessed with excellent close control and a steely pair of lungs – and he has demonstrated a capacity to find the net over the last few months on top of it all.
The 54-year-old will certainly need to add some zeal to his squad in January, but there isn’t one clear name surfacing at this moment in time.
