Mourinho suggests Man United youngster suffers from fitness issues

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has suggested that his young star Anthony Martial may struggle being consistent within matches themselves due to his fitness.

Martial starred during the club’s clash with Watford in the Premier League, managing to score in a match where he partnered Romelu Lukaku in the striker position.

The Frenchman seemed a more natural fit with his teammate than perhaps Marcus Rashford has as the Englishman has had a few opportunities alongside the Belgian but failed to click.

In fact, the academy product was dropped to the bench in favour of the former AS Monaco man, although Mourinho may have done so just to rest the young striker ahead of the match against Arsenal.

Young players tend to struggle with fitness in the beginning of their careers until they mature and become used to the high demands of professional football and it seems as though Anthony is the same.

Speaking to Manchester United‘s official website, Jose said: “I think he suffers a little bit with accumulation of matches. I could feel that in the second half he was going down and down and down.

“He’s still a young guy and his body, his biological situation has space to improve but in the first half, during the time, he had strength and explosion in his legs. He was dangerous and [scored] an important goal.”

Fatigue has been a small issue with both the youngsters, Martial and Rashford, who both at times had to be rested last season.

The good news is that the pair have been in fine form this time around and are profiting from a fruitful, friendly rivalry.

Competing for the same spot has left neither player bitter towards the manager and both players are actually improving from each other’s game.

Having added goals and assists to their game, the two footballers are becoming more and more like the finished product and Mourinho will have to continue juggling both well in order to get the best out of the pair continuously this season.
