Out of favour at Manchester United, Luke Shaw could be handed an opportunity at Newcastle United on loan, according to the Mirror.
The Magpies have had defensive issues, conceding seven goals in their last two games including four against Man United at Old Trafford, and are looking for a new left-back.
Shaw, signed for almost £30m from Southampton last season, would be too expensive for a permanent transfer to St. James’ Park.
Newcastle boss Benitez is aware of that, but is still reportedly focused on signing Shaw. That’s also despite a number of suitors available. It’s previously been reported that Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea were all following the Shaw situation at United.
Spurs are the team consistently linked due to the potential of a reunion with Shaw’s favoured manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
Shaw has been out of the United team for some time. He arrived three seasons ago and struggled initially. A blistering start to the 2015/16 season was sadly interrupted with a horrific leg break suffered in the UEFA Champions League against PSV Eindhoven.
That saw Shaw miss the rest of the season, and Euro 2016. His attitude and fitness have been questioned by United boss Jose Mourinho on a number of occasions.
At one point it seemed the 22-year-old was close to proving himself to Mourinho. But it hasn’t happened.
A move to Newcastle could be fantastic for Shaw, with game time readily available.
