Manchester United’s injury crisis has deepened even further after Matteo Darmian suffered an injury during Italy’s stale draw vs Sweden.
The defender’s nation failed to qualify for the 2018 edition of the World Cup after an impressive defensive display from Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Sweden.
Darmian’s versatility has proven crucial to both, his international and club career and his injury is sure to give Jose Mourinho a headache.
Capable of playing at right-back and left-back, Matteo gave Mourinho the tactical flexibility he craves so much at any club he manages.
With the Italian’s injury coming so soon to Phil Jones knock, Jose will certainly wonder what he must do in order to keep his players fit.
According to Calciomercato, Darmian featured for his nation in the left wing-back position but was taken off as his nation tried to unlock a stubborn Sweden.
Before being substituted though, Matteo took a blow to his ribs, even requiring treatment and needing to leave the bench early after being substituted in order for the doctor to take a better look.
The loss of the defender will be a blow as United taken on Newcastle after the international break on Saturday.
Mourinho though is known for asking his players to play through the pain and he may just ask the former Torino man to do so if selected.
Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have been the club’s first choice full-backs in recent matches, sparking rumours of the Italian wishing to leave.
Reports claim that a few teams back in his home country are interested in Darmian and with rumours of Jose interested in a number of full-backs, he may be concerned for his future at the club.
