Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly set a deadline of next summer for his club’s perennial chase of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.
The 26-year-old has been coveted by the European champions for the last few summers and was incredibly close to moving back to his home city of Madrid in 2015.
Had it not been for a paperwork error, De Gea would have joined Los Blancos with Costa Rican ‘keeper Keylor Navas coming the other way to sign for Man United.
Having failed in their pursuit of De Gea for the last two summers, Perez has insisted that next summer si the deadline to complete a move, according to Spanish outlet Diario Gol.
That puts pressure on De Gea to make a firm decision about his future, which is only fair to both clubs. He is happy in Manchester at the moment, more so than before, enjoying playing for the club as well as living in the city.
Diario Gol claim Perez will make a move for Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois is he cannot pull off the signing of De Gea.
Hopefully, De Gea will make it clear early on that he no longer wants to join Real Madrid. There are suggestions that the Spanish side’s dithering in 2015 made De Gea feel he wasn’t really wanted as much as it first seemed and left a bitter feeling towards the club.
