Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has been heaping the praise on Andreas Christensen.
The England international has hailed the way in which the young Dane has stepped up to the mark at Stamford Bridge this season and compared him with another Chelsea defender – David Luiz.
As quoted by ESPN, Cahill likened Christensen’s qualities to that of Luiz and insisted that the former Borussia Monchengladbach loanee can learn a lot from his teammate.
David came back in and performed well. Andreas is a younger version of him if you like. I feel like David can offer Andreas a lot of help in his progression. He has been there and done it at the top, top level, he has won many trophies.
David is a very experienced defender and Andreas’ attributes are very similar. I feel that he [Luiz] can advise him tremendously and he has done up until now.
Christensen has been favoured to Luiz on a few occasions this season, with Antonio Conte clearly a big admirer of the defender’s qualities.
The Denmark international has benefitted hugely from his spell in Germany with Monchengladbach and has returned to Stamford Bridge a much improved player.
With a hectic winter schedule ahead for the Blues, Conte will be grateful to have such a strong set of defensive options, with Christensen sure to be a regular feature across the festive period.
Chelsea fans will hope that Christensen can reach Luiz’s level one day, with the Brazilian coveted as one of the best defenders in the league.
