Ashley Young put in another commanding performance at left-back as he continues to establish himself as first-choice under Jose Mourinho.
The Englishman’s long-range shot was deflected in by Brighton & Hove Albion’s Lewis Dunk to gift Manchester United a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
Young was impressive as ever on the left flank at Old Trafford.

Young has been keeping Mourinho’s other left-back options well out of the starting line-up. Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind‘s chances have all been severely limited this season since Young returned to first-team action in September.
The 32-year-old had been out for some time with injury, but played on a couple of occasions for the under-23s before immediately coming into the side. He’s rarely been out of it since.
Shaw returned at a similar time, playing under-23s football alongside Young, but has been beaten to the starting spot by his countryman.
Young has been doing fantastically well, but there is a feeling that even that is not good enough for United. He is a winger. He was bought as a winger from Aston Villa back in 2011, and should never have had to be used by Louis van Gaal or Mourinho at full-back.
That position should be Shaw’s, but either his performances or attitude have not been good enough, it seems. Even if it’s not Shaw’s, United shouldn’t having to be relying on two converted wingers to play at full-back, with Antonio Valencia, the club’s vice-captain, playing at right-back for the past couple of years.
However, for now, Young is doing well. It’s just the prospect of him facing a truly world-class winger, with the Manchester derby approaching in December, that is worrying.
