Arsenal new boy Gabriel Martinelli has said that he wants to “mark his name” in the club’s history (via Sport Witness).

He’s an exciting signing who has taken a bit of a backseat at Arsenal following the late flurry of arrivals.

Still, the Gunners beat off a host of rival teams to sign Gabriel Martinelli who made his competitive debut for the club on the opening day of the season.

Now, the 18-year-old has given an interview back in Brazil where he has outlined his long-term aspirations at the Emirates Stadium.

“As it’s my first season, I want to show my potential to steady myself at the first team,” Martinelli told the Brazilian publication Lance.

“I know the squad is packed with great players, but I know what I can do and my goal is to help the team.

“I think we can achieve great things this season by winning titles and marking our name in Arsenal’s history.”

It’s a bold series of quotes from Gabriel Martinelli. The forward is clearly talented and has impressed people at Arsenal enough to justify an immediate promotion to the first team. Gunners fans haven’t seen much from their new attacker but hopefully, that will soon change. Martinelli will surely be given some minutes in the cups and Europa League to make his mark.

Matteo Guendouzi has told the story of how he got called up to the France senior squad for the first time in his career (via Arsenal.com).

It’s been an incredible 15 months for Matteo Guendouzi and the 20-year-old’s flourishing career took another step forward this week.

The midfielder was called up to the French senior squad for the first time, covering for the injured Paul Pogba.

Guendouzi had been expecting to play for the under-21s but made the step up and joined the senior squad, something which he has spoken about in France.

“It’s a big surprise for me. It’s been a dream since I was a kid. It’s something extraordinary,” the midfielder told FFF TV.

“I think any French player would want to play for this national team, it’s something huge. What I’m going through is really something extraordinary. I’m the happiest person in the world.

“I’m joining the world champions and it’s just exceptional. I’m going to learn a lot with them, with the staff, and it’s going to be very rewarding for me.”

The world champions take on Albania on Saturday before a match against Andorra on Tuesday. Matteo Guendouzi will be hoping to play some part in either of these two very winnable matches for the French. Let’s hope he does because the midfielder’s performances so far this season certainly warrant it.

Roy Keane launches fierce attack on Sir Alex Ferguson for this reason

Former Manchester United man Roy Keane has reignited his feud with Sir Alex Ferguson, claiming he wouldn’t forgive his former manager.

The legendary Scotsman has been retired for a few years now and underwent difficult health circumstances recently.

United have struggled to remain as a top Premier League side after Ferguson’s retirement with three managers failing to follow in his footsteps.

Now it’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s turn and unless he can put an end to his side’s poor form, he may follow suit.

Ferguson didn’t see eye to eye with the Irishman towards the end of his career so it’s no surprise to see the war of words continue.

According to the Mirror, Keane said: “I wouldn’t forgive Ferguson. The media spin, how I apparently upset everybody, it was all nonsense.

“I don’t care if it’s Alex Ferguson or the Pope, you’re going to defend yourself.

“People talk about Ferguson’s man-management. Nonsense. People said he always had the best interests of Manchester United at heart. Darren Ferguson [his son] won a medal. He was very lucky.”

Keane’s quotes were from a podcast with Off The Ball were he extensively discussed the end of his time at Manchester United.

It wasn’t the only time he criticised Ferguson and it’s unlikely to be his last despite there being hope there’d be an end to it all.

Keane’s words are a rather welcome distraction from United’s poor form of late so hopefully it continues to be discussed until the very last minute of international football.

Solskjaer needs to lead his side to a win after the break and he’ll have to do so against Harry Maguire’s former side in Leicester City.

Talented youngster opens up about contract talks with Man United

Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong has admitted negotiations over a new contract are under way under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s management.

The legendary Norwegian has opted for a youthful look to his side and so it’s no surprise to hear him attempting to tie down all his young players early.

Reports earlier emerged of the likes of Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes also earning new contracts but nothing was publicly confirmed until now.

Chong hasn’t featured for United’s first-team regularly in terms of competitive football as most of his contributions have happened mostly in pre-season.

There’s no doubt Solskjaer will hand him more minutes as the season goes on and hopefully he can grab his opportunity.

According to Sport Witness, Chong said: “Of course we are talking, but it’s still too early to say anything about it.

“The season is still long and we will see what happens. There are a lot of competitions coming up and I will focus on that.”

The other side of the argument to be made is that Chong hasn’t necessarily done anything fantastic to earn himself a new deal.

Of course breaking into the first-team in and of itself is an achievement but whether that’s enough to see him earn an incredible pay rise us the argument.

Perhaps Solskjaer is attempting to tie down all his future stars from now in order to avoid contract problems later.

However, that would mean he’s thoroughly convinced they will become top quality players worthy of the famous Manchester United red.

Ryan Giggs explains why Daniel James' form at Man Utd is not surprising

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has explained why he’s not surprised by Daniel James’ fantastic start to the season so far.

The young Welshman has scored three goals in four appearances to kickstart his career at Old Trafford in style.

No one expected James to quite enjoy such a good start, particularly since he was United’s most low profile signing of the summer.

Fans badly wanted Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire while the former Swansea man was a relative unknown.

James though has quickly shown just why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed him and has settled in as well as one can hope.

According to Manchester Evening News, Giggs said: “I haven’t been surprised by his start. He had a good pre-season. He played nearly every game and then when you come on and score it gives you a lift. It doesn’t matter who you are, confidence is everything.

“We all know what he’s capable of, in the last nine months or so he’s got better and better. He’s at the right club, Ole will look after him. I’m pleased for him. He won’t get carried away. He’s a down to earth character and he’s at the right club in terms of keeping his feet on the ground.”

The hope is now that James keeps up his form but in the longterm that he’s also able to perform past this season so he’s not just a one hit wonder.

Lots of players had initial bright starts before simmering down with his teammates Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial prime examples.

It’s likely James will be doubled up on by next season if not within this season itself should his performances continue to be the quality it has been so far.

It’s also likely Solskjaer will want to sign a right-winger regardless as the sensational attacker has little to no competition for his position.

Gary Neville explains why Man United must take this lesson from Liverpool

Gary Neville has emphasised that Manchester United must keep faith in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and maintain the same long-term vision as Liverpool have with Jurgen Klopp.

The latter was appointed in October 2015 and inherited nothing short of a mess, finishing eighth in the Premier League table that season.

Some might say that the dourness of Man United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton last weekend was resemblant of those Liverpool performances of 2015 and 2016 when Klopp still did not have the personnel in place to fully implement his vision.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the pundit stressed that United must allow for this Solskjaer project to breathe instead of clearing the slate again.

“What Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have done at Manchester City and Liverpool, it took time to get right,” he said.

“It does take time. Solskjaer is working more with a squad like the one Klopp picked up at Liverpool than the one Guardiola inherited at City.”

The number of times this writer saw Liverpool fans, following a dysfunctional performance, called for the removal of Klopp, is impossible to count.

Time and time again, it did not seem to be working, the same mistakes being made, the project not winning people over.

But Liverpool waited. The Mamadou Sakhos, Joe Allens and Steven Gerrards of that Liverpool side were slowly but surely moved along, paving the way for something fresh, something better. Last season, as we all know, they won the Champions League, and deservedly too.

United are at the start of that long road now. You can only hope that the decision-making apparatus at Old Trafford has the same passion and belief as Liverpool did in 2015.

Man United fans learn the truth behind Wan-Bissaka's back injury

Manchester United’s medical staff have determined that Aaron Wan-Bissaka can play through his back injury provided that the area is carefully managed in between games, according to the Telegraph.

The 21-year-old was withdrawn from the England senior squad ahead of the September international break in response to the problem.

It turns out that Wan-Bissaka was already carrying the injury ahead of the international break and that the England medical staff were unwilling to risk him in games against Bulgaria and Kosovo.

According to Matt Law, it is thought that Wan-Bissaka’s injury is something which the defender can play with as long as United’s medical team carefully manage the problem in between games.

The full-back has returned to Carrington this week to be carefully monitored ahead of the club deciding whether he can start against Leicester City at Old Trafford on September 14.

It is quite fitting for United that, after the first month of the season, both Luke Shaw and Wan-Bissaka have injuries, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with no choice but to use Ashley Young, who we should all just accept will play for this club until at least 2034.

Either way, perhaps there is not much of a story here when it comes to Aaron Wan-Bissaka: strong majority of Premier League footballers play with pain and injuries every week, sustained by ice-baths and injections and all sorts of medical intervention. It is just part of the job. Wan-Bissaka, a ruthlessly hard worker, will manage to push through, you hope.

Man United fans get positive injury update, key player to return vs Leicester

Paul Pogba’s will not miss any action for Manchester United after the international break after it was revealed by L’Equipe that the Frenchman’s ankle injury shouldn’t keep him out for more than ten days.

The midfielder was seen limping towards the team coach following Man United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton last weekend.

Pogba has been since withdrawn from the French national team for Euro 2020 qualifiers this month, prompting fears that he would be unavailable for United later this month.

However, it has been claimed by the leading French media outlet that Pogba’s rehabilitation will only take ten days, which means he should be available for the game against Leicester City at Old Trafford on September 14.

Without Pogba, United’s midfielders are as follows: Nemanja Matic, Fred, Andreas Pereira, Scott McTominay.

One of those, Pereira, is not even a central midfielder by trade, while Matic is probably entering his final season at the highest level.

In other words, United are, once again, just one bad injury away from a genuinely perilous position. That midfield, as we have seen, looks short even when Pogba is there. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have to alter his entire strategy if Pogba was suddenly unavailable as well.

Former Man United stars both make this complaint about Rashford

Former Manchester United stars Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves have doubted Marcus Rashford‘s ability to lead the line for the club following his dismal display against Southampton.

The young Englishman played as a striker in the absence of Anthony Martial but it’s fair to say he failed to impress.

Rashford isn’t known for his clinical nature but he still let down fans as he missed chance after chance.

Much was made of United’s decision to allow Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to leave without replacements but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed he believed in the academy product as well as Martial and Mason Greenwood.

Unfortunately none of the three are proven strikers at the highest level but there’s hope they can prove their critics wrong.

According to the Mirror, Hargreaves said: “It’s a shame because I love him as a player, I think he’s terrific, but they [United] need a No.9.

“Sanchez has gone, Lukaku has gone, they needed him to step up. Martial has really taken the No.9 shirt and been great.

“Rashford had a chance [against Southampton] and he didn’t take it. Is he going to be a No.9, is he going to play off the left? He didn’t capitalise.”

While Scholes said: “I think that’s the big question – what actually is he? And it’s the same with Greenwood, Martial, he’s similar.

“On that performance [against Southampton] he just didn’t look like a centre-forward. I don’t think you can judge it on one performance, he hasn’t played there a lot. He looks like the scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer to me.”

It’s actually a shame Rashford came for heavy criticism for one poor performance as he was actually outstanding this season otherwise.

The sensational attacker scored twice and assisted once so far in four matches so it’s tough to imagine a better record.

However, with keeping that in mind, it all came from Rashford playing as a left-winger so perhaps he could be better off sticking to that position.

He should certainly be given more opportunities to impress as a striker and Solskjaer will probably be forced to do so due to a lack of options so hopefully he’ll take his chances next time.

Man United could lose these three players to Serie A next summer: report

Juventus are reportedly already planning on potentially raiding Manchester United for three of their stars despite the summer transfer window just slamming shut.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side already had to fight off the Italian giants’ interest in Paul Pogba and it appears they will have to do something similar against next year.

United have a host of stars whose futures are up in the air so it’s no surprise to see them linked already with potential moves away.

Solskjaer has gotten his revolution underway having moved on a few players and signing a few too so fans will be excited to see what he can do next year too.

The legendary Norwegian’s signings have all impressed as well with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James all playing phenomenally so far.

According to the Mirror, Gazetta Dello Sport report that Juventus are keeping tabs on Nemanja Matic, Eric Bailly and David de Gea as they have already drawn up their shortlist for next summer.

The world class Spaniard’s contract runs out next summer so they could potentially sign him for free much to the fury of Manchester United fans.

Bailly meanwhile has had a host of injuries while Matic’s future is uncertain after being dropped from the starting XI for all four of his team’s games so far.

Man United suffer blow in their pursuit of Premier League midfield target

West Ham star Declan Rice has hinted a potential move to Manchester United could happen but not in the immediate future.

The young Englishman has been reportedly linked with a transfer to Old Trafford all summer but nothing truly transpired.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s desire to sign local homegrown talent is no secret so it’s not a surprise he’s after one of England’s rising prospects.

United’s need for defensive midfielder isn’t lost on the fans either who felt it was a position that desperately needed investment.

Rice would potentially walk right into Solskjaer’s midfield as it’s likely he would be partnered up alongside Paul Pogba.

The young Scotsman was impressive all throughout Manchester United’s pre-season and he’s been rewarded with plenty of minutes so far.

Should McTominay continue his rise then Solskjaer would feel there’s no real need for Rice unless the West Ham man was happy to play back-up.

The former Molde man has also had a preference for youth as his back-up players so it’s like James Garner would be promoted by then.

The future is unpredictable however and so Rice may yet find himself in red if it all doesn’t go to plan.

Paul Scholes furious with three Man United players after Southampton draw

Paul Scholes has aimed his anger at senior trio Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Ashley Young following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side went ahead through Daniel James after ten minutes and should have scored more, but their final poor was consistently poor.

Following Southampton’s equaliser, scored early in the second hald, United played against ten men for 20 minutes to no avail, with no tangible chances emerging for the sloppy visitors.

Speaking after the game, Scholes directed his anger not at Marcus Rashford or Solskjaer, but rather the senior trio who failed to give their team any thrust during those closing stages.

“It wasn’t the young players I was disappointed with, it was more the experienced players,” he said.

“When Matic came on he constantly gave the ball away, Ashley Young gave the ball away, I don’t know how many times Paul Pogba lost possession.”

Most disconcerting of all was the fact that, even before Southampton scored, it did not feel as if United would score another.

It takes an element of authority to score goals. There has to be a certain level of mental and technical control before you can even think about scoring one.

In those final 20 minutes, against ten not particularly good Southampton players, no senior United player looked capable of summoning anything near the composure needed to lay the platform for a crisp finish in the box. It was a consequence of a team whose players are still, as it turns out, largely alien to each other. That composure will take some time and patience.

Nemanja Matic speaks out about rumours of rift with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Nemanja Matic has denied that any rift exists between himself and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

The midfielder, who struggled more than most towards the end of last season, has not started any of Man United’s opening four Premier League games of the 2019-20 campaign.

Controversy emerged after United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton when Matic liked a comment on Instagram criticising Solskjaer’s selection and tactics.

Speaking ahead of a Euro 2020 qualifier against Portugal, Matic said: “In the first two or three games he (Solskjaer) determined the team without me.

“I work as hard as I can, we respect the decision, it is mine to show him that he was wrong and to bring me back to where I belong.

“There is no problem. I told him I disagreed with him, but that he had to decide the team. I have been in football for a long time, I have played almost all the games for all the clubs in the last 10 years.

“In order for me to play, one had to sit on the bench and accept that fact, and so do I now. The coach must opt for the team that will fight for the title, and if he does not win, he bears the responsibility.”

Matic forms part of the old guard which Solskjaer, piece by piece, is looking to dismantle as part of a vision to create a fresher, more energetic foundation for his high-pressing counterattacking style.

And there is no doubt that Matic, a Premier League winner, feels hard done by, but the fact of the matter is that his lack of mobility has no place in this current setup.

It is down to Matic to prove to his boss that he should be playing ahead of Scott McTominay, Andreas Pereira and Fred.

Sanchez reveals Lukaku's role in convincing him to leave Man United

Alexis Sanchez has spoken of how Romelu Lukaku helped to convince him to join Inter Milan on loan this season.

The Chilean has followed the Belgian to the San Siro on a season-long loan following a miserable 2018-19 campaign under both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Sanchez, who moved to Old Trafford in January 2018, managed just two goals from 27 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring just once in the Premier League.

Reflecting on what convinced him to become an Inter player, Sanchez told Sky Sports News: “I am happy to return to Italian football, then we will see. I want to do only the best for me, for the team and for the Inter fans.”

“We can talk about a championship, I am here to win something. The team has not won for eight years, but has everything to do it.

“The group is young and strong, there is a coach who wants to win. The presence of Conte was important, he conveys confidence to the players.

“Lukaku is happy to be here, he also convinced me to come here.”

United have agreed to subsidise a significant portion of Sanchez’s wages at Inter this season, and may well help to fund a more permanent move away further down the line.

Indeed, even if Sanchez does impress this season, it is likely that many United fans will still not want him back. Sanchez’s failure at Old Trafford has felt like something more than merely technical; it looks as if his boots are on the wrong foot.

Arsenal have released their Premier League squad for the forthcoming and it suggests some ingenious planning on their part (via The Premier League).

In the last few years, the most senior positions at Arsenal have undergone a major overhaul with new faces taking up key roles.

The likes or Raul Sanllehi, Edu Gaspar, Vinai Vnkatesham, and Josh Kroenke are part of a new-look Arsenal which is operating very differently compared to previous seasons.

This was evident in the transfer market over the summer and it seems as if superior planning is coming into effect in new areas.

The reason for this could well be that if Saliba is registered as an Arsenal player for the next three seasons then he will become classified as Home-Grown when he turns 21.

Players must be registered for three years at a British club before their 21st birthday if they are to achieve homegrown status and Saliba will do just that.

If this is the reasoning behind the decision then it will act as a smart move by Arsenal. The club will need to secure as many first-team players who are home-grown as possible. Within a few years, the Gunners could name a back four made up of all home-grown players.

Nacho Monreal has revealed that head coach Unai Emery blocked him from leaving Arsenal last summer (via Sport Witness).

He was one of the many players to leave Arsenal this summer but few will be looked back on as fondly by Gunners fans as Nacho Monreal will be.

The Spaniard was a crucial part of the first team for six and a half seasons at left-back and centre-back before departing for Real Sociedad at the weekend.

He’s long been linked with an exit from the club, something which Monreal has spoken about in an interview back in Spain.

“In my head for weeks there was already the possibility of coming here, and a few days ago we agreed and here we are,” Monreal told AS.

“Last year, let’s just say we couldn’t come to an agreement because it was Emery’s first year. He was blunt from the first moment saying I wasn’t going out.

“And this year the parties have been more open. Emery kept insisting that I go on, even asked me to play the derby against London.”

It’s an interesting interview. Nacho Monreal was heavily linked with an Arsenal exit last year but it seems as if Unai Emery prevented that from happening. It makes sense for all parties because the incoming head coach needed players he could rely on. Monreal was certainly that for Arsenal in his six and a half years.

The reason why Neville believes Man United's poor form won't end soon

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has predicted more inconsistent times ahead for the club’s youthful side but insists he believes they’re on the right track under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s leadership.

The former Molde man has overseen a poor start to the campaign as his side fell apart following the convincing 4-0 defeat of Chelsea.

United went on to draw with Wolves, lose to Crystal Palace then draw to 10-man Southampton in frustrating style.

Solskjaer must be keen on putting an end to their inconsistencies but Neville believes a young side was always going to have ups and downs.

Frustrated fans have already begun to voice their concerns but it appears they’ll have to be patient for a while longer.

According to the Mirror, Neville said:”I think when you have a team that’s young like this Manchester United team is, it’s got a lot of players who are developing and trying to prove themselves.

“I think they’re going to get a lot of results like this where they do alright in the game. I actually though it was okay the performance (against Southampton), but they just don’t have that clinical element to see it off, to be able to sort of win the game.

“There is an element of frustration at the moment from Manchester United fans because obviously where the club have been, there’s still that recent history of big success under Sir Alex Ferguson, but there’s been six or seven years now and I think there’s an element of frustration building, real frustration, that they’re not on the right track.

“I think that they are on the right track in my opinion in terms of what they’re doing. Because the first thing that Manchester United have to do, you have to have a group of people in that changing room – it’s so important – who want to be there. Forget how talented they are.”

To prove Solskjaer’s on the right track, at least in terms of his recruitments, all three of his signings have been put up for the player of the month award.

Daniel James, Harry Maguire and Daniel James have all impressed heavily since their arrivals and it’s actually a little embarrassing for their teammates that they’ve walked right into the nominations as well as starting XI.

Solskjaer has recruited well so far and he must continue to do so but first he’ll have to drag Manchester United back to good form otherwise he’ll lose his job before the next transfer window.

How Man United are planning for potential De Gea departure

Manchester United are reportedly planning on David de Gea‘s potential departure and have targeted Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak as his replacement.

The sensational Spaniard has entered his final contract with the club and with no end in sight in terms of a renewal, it makes sense to plan for a replacement.

It’s tough to imagine anyone is capable of replacing De Gea but fans would certainly be happy with Oblak as he’s also one of the best in the world.

United have been trying to wrap up a deal for the former Atletico Madrid man for ages now so the question becomes, have they tried everything they can?

Fans would probably offer De Gea a blank cheque but it’s unlikely the club did so despite his many years of service and how tough it would be to replace him.

Whatever the Red Devils end up spending on Oblak they could instead use that to convince De Gea to dedicate the last part of career to Old Trafford.

The 28 year old has actually been the captain for the majority of the club’s fixtures this season in the absence of Ashley Young.

It makes little sense to lose someone who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer considers to be a leader but De Gea does need to make his mind up soon or else depart in the same way Ander Herrera did.

Chris Smalling has been pictured training with AS Roma for the first time since joining the Serie A side on loan from Manchester United.

The Englishman completed a basic season-long loan move, worth €3m with no option to buy, to the Italian captial last week.

Smalling had not featured in any of Man United’s opening three Premier League games of the season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sticking with defensive pair Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

The defender was pictured working hard in the Italian heat as he prepares for his Serie A debut.

Smalling was declared fit enough for a place on the bench ahead of Roma’s 1-1 draw with Lazio this weekend, although manager Paulo Fonseca opted against throwing him in at the deep end, away from home at the club’s fiercest of rivals.

With the international break now underway, the 29-year-old must wait until September 15 to pull on a Roma shirt and finally get some action after a long summer against Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico – the site of United’s 2-0 defeat in the 2009 Champions League final.
