"Is this man crazy?": Former CL winner launches bizarre tirade against Ten Hag and United

Former Netherlands international Wesley Sneijder has launched an extraordinary attack on Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, claiming he lost the dressing room 18 months ago.

The Dutch manager enjoyed a successful debut season at the helm, finishing third and winning the club’s first silverware since 2017.

It has been all downhill since then however, as the Red Devils find themselves in sixth place in the Premier League and in real danger of finishing outside the top six for the first time since the 2013/2014 season.

As would be expected, the former Ajax manager has faced a lot of criticism for his role in the nightmare that has been this season with pundits like Paul Scholes claiming back in March that INEOS had already decided to replace him at the end of the season.

Speaking on Dutch television show Veronica Offside (via The Metro) former Dutch star, Sneijder, had some choice words for his compatriot’s spell in charge of United and believes the problems he is facing at the club have been brewing since 2022.

Sneijder claimed, “He already made a mistake by competing with Ronaldo. He lost everyone’s respect there. He thought it would work the other way around, but of course not.”

“Those guys in the dressing room thought, ‘Is this man crazy?'”

The World Cup finalist went on to predict that Ten Hag’s future is already sealed due to the poor performances of the current campaign.

“Of course he already knows that he has to leave. But you’re not going to go yourself. If I was him, I would sit there comfortably [until he’s sacked].”

Whilst it is more than fair to highlight Ten Hag’s role behind United’s demise this campaign, it is somewhat harsh to refer to the Ronaldo incident as the catalyst for such problems.

The Portuguese conducted an explosive interview with Piers Morgan in November 2022 and despite some players probably being disappointed with the player’s departure, it clearly didn’t affect their performances.

This is due to the fact that the Old Trafford team probably played their best football of the Ten Hag era between December 2022 and March 2023 when they won the Carabao Cup and consolidated themselves in the top four of the Premier League that season.

Sneijder clearly has a bee in his bonnet when it comes to United as he recently spoke out against Antony’s reaction to winning the FA Cup semi-final penalty shootout against Coventry City and also criticised the club’s pursuit of Wout Weghorst in January 2023.

The player was famously pursued by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2011 but he never ended up at the Theatre of Dreams. Sneijder has revealed since that he was very close to a move to Manchester but the deal collapsed when his representatives asked for more money.

It is most certainly fair to blame Ten Hag for the tactical mess United are in and he will most likely pay for it with the loss of his job. Nonetheless, Sneijder’s criticism can certainly go over the top and in the case of the latest Ronaldo example, barely make any sense at all.

Mason Greenwood to play for Man United again unless significant transfer fee offered - report

New co-owners INEOS have plans to reshape the Manchester United squad moving forward as they seek to try and return the club to the top of the English footballing pyramid.

However, after years of bad investment in the transfer market, PSR concerns have caught up with the Red Devils and they first need to focus on moving players on and raising capital before thinking about recruitment.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is planning a large-scale summer clearout which includes high-profile names such as Casemiro and Marcus Rashford even though the Mancunian would prefer to stay and fight for his place.

Players who are out on loan are all expected to be sold with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood staring at the exit door.

Greenwood’s future

But unlike the Glazers, INEOS have plans to be much more ruthless when it comes to sales and they will not agree to any cut-price deals for their stars.

Greenwood’s exploits in Spain for Getafe include 10 goals and six assists in 31 games across all competitions and the 20-time English league champions will not sell him on the cheap.

Getafe want to keep the versatile forward for the long term while they are not averse to the idea of another loan. Both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were also chasing the England international while Juventus reportedly are in the lead currently.

But as ESPN have revealed, United want between £30-£40 million for the 22-year-old and Getafe are in no position to pay that much. Both Barca and Atleti have also removed themselves from the race.

The Old Lady seem to think they can get their man on the cheap or use United’s interest in Gleison Bremer as leverage. But United remain firm on their asking price and should they not receive a satisfactory offer, a return to Old Trafford could be on the cards for Greenwood.

“Another academy graduate, Mason Greenwood, is expected to depart this summer with the club seeking a permanent deal for the 22-year-old.

“Greenwood has scored 10 goals on loan at Getafe this season but it’s unlikely the Spanish team will be able to fund a permanent transfer. United are looking for between £30m and £40m.

“A source has told ESPN that, as with Rashford, United will not accept a significantly reduced fee and if the club’s demands are not met, Greenwood could return to Old Trafford.”

INEOS have huge call to make

The United forward was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was suspended by the club two seasons ago.

Those charges were subsequently dropped, and United’s own internal investigation also ended with manager Erik ten Hag keen to reintegrate the academy graduate back into the first team.

But fan backlash meant former CEO Richard Arnold’s decision had to be reversed and the club was forced to send him out on loan to Spain.

Despite what Sir Jim has said about the forward in the past, it would be a controversial move to bring back Greenwood. The player himself is not too keen and a huge summer awaits both the player and his parent club.

United step up interest in goal-scoring goalkeeper to challenge Onana to improve - report

Manchester United are looking at signing Ivan Provedel to provide competition for Andre Onana next season.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper has had a rollercoaster of a season to say the least since relocating from Milan to Manchester last summer.

The Champions League group stage saw the keeper at his worst with numerous high profile blunders which certainly set his team back, most notably letting in two soft free kicks in Istanbul which meant the Red Devils lost a two goal lead twice in the match and had to settle for a costly 3-3 draw.

However, in some regards, Onana has also had a great season as he has produced many fine saves and was able to crucially help his side win the FA Cup semi-final shootout against Coventry City.

The match on Saturday against Burnley was a classic example of Onana’s season, where he produced numerous fine stops only to concede a careless penalty late on, which the Clarets converted to secure a 1-1 draw.

Despite these issues, the former Ajax keeper has been a mainstay in the team playing 46 times this season with back-up keeper Altay Bayindir only suiting up for the side once – in an FA Cup ties versus Newport County when Onana was at the African Cup of Nations.

Consequently, reports have emerged that the Turkish keeper is fed up with sitting on the bench and is looking for a move after less than a year at the club. In response, Fichajes report that United could look to Lazio’s Ivan Provedel as a potential replacement.

The Spanish outlet states that Onana has not offered “the expected performance at the start of this season, which has fuelled the rumours about the signing of a new goalkeeper.”

This has led them to look at Serie A and in particular Lazio, as Provedel is said to have “given great individual performances that have not gone unnoticed by Manchester United who according to the latest information would be willing to make an economic effort to sign the player and thus accompany Onana during 2024/2025.”

However, it is made clear, even if only originally, Provedel would not be the number one keeper: “Manchester United would bet on Provedel to raise the competitive level of its goalkeepers, with Onana being chosen to compete for the starting position.”

The Dutch stopper himself has played 38 times this season and, impressively, has only conceded 31 goals in 28 Serie A games.

The 30-year-old Italian is probably most well-known for his last minute heroics last September when he scored a late equaliser versus Atletico Madrid and became only the second goalkeeper to score from open play in Champions League history.

It is unsure whether the Italian would give up regular first-team football to sit on United’s bench but he may see a move to such a club as too big to turn down.

Moreover, in the likely case the club will have a new manager in the summer, the new man in charge may not be so wedded to the idea of Onana playing every game he is available for.

"Proven he can win": Schmeichel backs manager with "fantastic football knowledge" to succeed Ten Hag

Manchester United’s legendary goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, believes that Thomas Tuchel could be the man to take over from Erik ten Hag in the summer.

Yet another disappointing performance and soul-crushing late equaliser at the weekend means that the Red Devils stand little to no chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

This has traditionally meant the end of the road for previous managers in the Old Trafford hotseat and naturally many have speculated Ten Hag will meet the same end.

The coach has infuriated and alienated numerous fans with his apparent inability to accept reality when he once again claimed his side played well, in spite of 19th placed Burnley enjoying large portions of possession in the game and coming away with a point.

He also hardly endeared himself to whatever support he maintains among the matchday goers as he claimed they “don’t understand” when they booed his decision to replace Kobbie Mainoo on Saturday.

As a result, the Red Devils have been linked to numerous managers including Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi, Ruben Amorim and Xavi to name a few.

However, one link that will not go away is that of the former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

The German will be leaving his current post at the end of the campaign and he is reportedly keen on taking up the role at Old Trafford and would even be prepared to turn down the bright lights of the Camp Nou.

The Bayern coach splits opinion as he is undoubtedly a very successful coach who has won the Champions League and managed huge clubs like Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Nonetheless, he can be a prickly character and controversy tends to follow him wherever he goes. However, one pundit who would support the appointment of Tuchel is Schmeichel.

Speaking to beIN sports after United’s disappointing draw with Burnley he revealed his opinion on the 50-year-old coach.

“I like him. I like Thomas Tuchel. I have had the pleasure of interviewing him a couple of times. His football knowledge is fantastic. I think he has been a little bit unlucky with being at two big football clubs at the wrong time of their history, at times when things were not working at every level.”

Defending his record further the Dane claimed, “It’s not that he didn’t do well with Chelsea for instance. I mean, he won the Champions League, didn’t he? I just like him. There’s something about him. He projects sort of authority. You never compare people, but he has got the same kind of thing that Klopp has, you know.”

“If Manchester United were in the market for a manager, he should be somebody mentioned in that respect. He should be. He has that kind of pedigree. He has got, as I said, the authority, he has proven he can win, which I think is really important.

“He does come with a set system, this is how football has been played. Yeah, of course, he is a big-club manager, isn’t he?”

INEOS seem to be taking their time with the decision and with Jason Wilcox carrying out an audit on Ten Hag’s future, we can expect a decision after May’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.

With a perceived weak managerial class available this summer and options dwindling as other clubs sort out their futures before the season’s end, Tuchel may just be the option Sir Jim Ratcliffe decides to pursue.

"I want to go": Former PL club owner claims £60m United target likely to leave in the summer - report

Manchester United appear to be in with a fighting chance of signing priority transfer target Michael Olise.

Believed to be a “pre-approved” signing by INEOS, United are expected to pull out all the stops to bring the Crystal Palace winger to Old Trafford.

The club seems to be in dire need of some fresh legs on the wing. Marcus Rashford has been a shadow of his former self this season, while Antony, despite a goal at the weekend, has long proven to be an unreliable option.

Although Alejandro Garnacho has enjoyed a fine season despite having to play majorly on the right wing, he has struggled as of late – perhaps an indication that he is being overplayed.

With his price tag reported to be £60 million, Olise could prove to be great value for money, however, the lack of a release clause means that a bidding war could ensue thus pushing his price upwards.

Furthermore, the structure of his contract would require a portion of his transfer fee to be paid to his previous club Reading as well as a percentage to the player himself, making a potential deal more complex.

Last week, however, United received a major boost in their pursuit of the Palace star. As relayed by The Peoples Person, Chelsea appear to have withdrawn their interest as they seek to strengthen their squad in other positions.

Now that United have seemingly fewer rivals in the race to sign Olise, a deal this summer appears increasingly likely. What’s more, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan is of the belief that a summer deal is possible.

“Everyone is going to be looking at Olise and [Ebere] Eze and that is a big challenge for Palace,” Jordan explained in an interview with talkSPORT, acknowledging that both players have become transfer targets for major clubs.

“I think you’re probably in a situation where Michael Olise signed a new contract last year predominantly to protect Palace’s value in the next set of negotiations,” Jordan explained.

“But if Man United come, or Liverpool or Arsenal come, the player forms part of the problem because he then goes; ‘Well, I love it here but I want to go to this bigger football club. Now, I want to go.”

Should the allure of joining a larger club appeal to Olise, then United may be in with a chance to lure him to Old Trafford this summer.

Still, the club will be concerned that Erik ten Hag was unable to secure Champions League football next season, which could be to United’s detriment should a side in the top four decide to join the race to sign Olise.

"A completely different way of...": United legend explains why life is so difficult at Old Trafford

Manchester United legend Jaap Stam opened up about the discomfort he felt during his career at Old Trafford.

A key member of Manchester United’s treble-winning team of 1998/99, the Dutch defender reached heights that most players could only dream of – winning the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup in one season, not to mention two subsequent league titles.

Despite rising to great heights on the pitch, Stam revealed such success came at a price. Upon arriving at United from PSV Eindhoven in 1998, he soon learned just how tough life in the Premier League truly is.

“When I was in Eindhoven, I felt at ease. At that time I was one of the better players in the Netherlands and I won many prizes,” Stam revealed to Dutch news site Soccer News.

In addition to football in England being more competitive than in the Netherlands, Stam admitted that life off the pitch was also difficult to navigate. “I was photographed everywhere and a lot of it was published, which is a completely different way of working,” he concluded.

Still, the former centre-back clarified that Sir Alex Ferguson ran a tight ship, ensuring his players continued to perform at their peak no matter the obstacles they faced. Stam explained that Ferguson would notify players when they made mistakes, ensuring that they did not repeat their errors.

Sadly, it appears as if the days of strict management at Old Trafford no longer exists in the current era.

With United constantly underperforming this season, manager Erik ten Hag has been on the receiving end of a barrage of criticism, particularly after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Burnley at home on Saturday.

After the Old Trafford crowd booed some of Ten Hag’s substitutions during the draw, the Dutch manager responded by claiming that these fans lacked understanding.

What’s more, he called United one of the more “entertaining” teams in the Premier League due to the number of opportunities they create. Bizarrely, he failed to mention the many chances that his team consistently seems to squander.

With Ten Hag continuously insisting that his team is playing well despite results not going their way, it appears as if he is living in denial, refusing to accept any criticism of his management.

While the likes of Stam may have faced immense pressure in the spotlight, it’s clear that Sir Alex played a pivotal role in keeping his squad in check both on and off the pitch. Unfortunately, his boots appear to remain unfilled.

"For me...": Manager breaks silence on his player wanted by Ten Hag on priority

If there was ever a list to be made of players who were perenially linked to Manchester United but not joining, Frenkie de Jong is quickly making his way up that list.

The Erik ten Hag favourite has been linked to United ever since his former manager rocked up at Old Trafford.

After the first summer of links ultimately ended up being unsuccessful and United signings Casemiro instead, the rumour mill was somewhat quiet in the second summer.

Turns out, those links were just resting up to come back with a vengeance in the upcoming window.

De Jong has been linked to United again with recent reports suggesting Barcelona are open to selling him and the player is more willing than ever to move.

However, Barcelona manager Xavi has moved to pour cold water on those links in a direct statement of intent.

Fabrizio Romano reports Xavi saying that De Jong is a key player for him and “nothing has changed”. He added that the midfielder has been “unlucky with injuries” but “his level has always been excellent”.

Xavi said: “For me, de Jong is a key player. Nothing has changed, he’s really crucial for me.

“He’s been unlucky with many injuries but his level has always been excellent, I consider Frenkie as crucial player.”

It is an open secret that United will be looking to strengthen their midfield this summer, with Casemiro declining sharply and Christian Eriksen running on fumes.

De Jong suits United’s position of need, and playing style and is a firm Ten Hag favourite, which made him a contender to join.

However, as long as Xavi remains in charge, prying him away from the Catalans will always be a tall order, and that is before considering his own stance.

United had agreed a deal for him in the summer of 2022 only for the player to reject the club’s advances.

It seems like there’s no false hope given to the club this summer if Xavi’s statement is anything to go by which should save United a lot of time in the market.

United man breaks incredible record for loan club leaving Ten Hag wondering what might have been

Manchester United struggles this season have come both on and off the pitch, with Erik ten Hag having to contend with multiple issues, particularly early in the campaign.

The fall-out with Jadon Sancho was an unexpected problem for Ten Hag, who lost one of his key players after exiling the forward for a public outburst toward to the boss.

Sancho hasn’t played for United since August and was sent on loan to former club Borussia Dortmund in January.

The 24-year-old is getting back up to speed in Germany and showing flashes of his undoubted quality in a league that certainly better suits his style of play.

His wonderful strike in Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to RB Leipzig gave Dortmund a lead on the day and took his overall tally to 40 goals in Germany’s top flight.

As reported by The Daily Mail, Sancho’s 40th strike makes him the highest scoring Englishman in Bundesliga history.

The excellent curling effort put him one past the record of former Nottingham Forest and Arsenal winger Tony Woodcock, who made made 155 appearances for Köln across two spells in the 1970s and 80s.

However, it’s not expected Sancho will hold the record for long, with England captain Harry Kane already breathing down his neck after one season in Germany.

Kane is currently on an extraordinary 35 goals in 31 games for Bayern Munich, and with three Bundesliga games left, might even overtake Sancho by the end the season.

If not by the end of this, it will surely not take Kane long to find himself top of the list in the new season, particularly with Bayern out to avenge the loss of the German league title they held for 11 consecutive years.

Sancho’s long term future is looking less secure, with a reconciliation at United reliant on a change in the dugout which is looking more and more likely with each passing week.

United have four league games to navigate before the huge Manchester Derby in the FA Cup final, which may well be Ten Hag’s last hurrah as United boss.

INEOS will then make a decision on Sancho who would either provide the new coach with another option in his front line or command a decent fee in the transfer market should he be sold.

INEOS set to miss out on two further Ten Hag replacements with options quickly running out

Manchester United’s woeful campaign has left Erik ten Hag under huge pressure to save his position at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has suffered badly in his second season in charge and failing to finish in the top four alongside an embarrassing early exit from the Champions League has put pressure on INEOS to make a change.

However, with the managerial merry-go-round in full swing this summer, the pool of potential suitors is quickly dwindling.

As reported by fichajes.com, two coaches on INEOS’ shortlist to replace the Dutchman are set to take jobs on the continent in the coming weeks.

First, ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is on the verge of returning to the dug-out in Serie A with last year’s runaway champions, Napoli.

Conte is expected to receive a salary of €6.5 million per season in Naples and will be tasked with restoring some pride to the club who have suffered an awful campaign this time out, looking unlikely to finish any higher than eighth place.

Additionally, former Wolves coach Julen Lopetegui is “one step away” from joining Conte in Italy by taking over at AC Milan, who have been beaten to the Scudetto by arch-rivals Inter this season.

The Spaniard has held positive discussions with the Rossoneri and is favouring a move to Milan despite interest from clubs across Europe.

With two more well respected coaches now seemingly off the market, INEOS will be aware of the need to make a decision quickly on the future of their current head coach.

Despite having to contend with a long list of injuries throughout the season, Ten Hag’s apparent inability to change his style of play has left fans bemused as they watch opponents continuously slice United open week-on-week.

However, amidst the chaos the Dutchman has managed to steer United to a second successive FA Cup final which many feel represents the last chance Ten Hag to save his skin, in Manchester.

Before then, United must navigate their last four Premier League fixtures as they bid to secure a place in next season’s Europa League, before they travel to Wembley on May 25.

United set for transfer battle with Arsenal, Spurs for 18yo West Ham wonderkid - report

Unlike Manchester United’s senior team, this season has been a roaring success for the all the age-group teams.

The United U18s clinched a league and cup double for the first time while the U21s qualified for the play-offs on Friday.

And the academy has been the rare shining light for Erik ten Hag’s team as well with Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho already proving they are not only the future but the present.

With mounting injuries to contend with, the Dutchman has opted to hand debuts to academy stars like Dan Gore, Omari Forson, Willy Kambwala and most recently Ethan Wheatley.

Youth showing the way at United

More first team chances are in the pipeline with the likes of Harry Amass, Habeeb Ogunneye and Shea Lacey all champing at the bit.

With new co-owners INEOS now on board, the Red Devils are expected to focus heavily on youth recruitment. And as per ESPN, West Ham United’s highly-rated attacking midfielder Daniel Rigge is in the crosshairs of the club.

However, agreeing a deal will not be straightforward for the former Manchester City youth product with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both interested.

The 18-year-old has 11 goals and six assists for the Hammers’ U18 team, with West Ham second in the U18 Premier League South table.

The England U16 international has also made five appearances for the U21 side, registering a goal, while also making a couple of appearances in the FA Youth Cup.

Youth recruitment

“Tottenham and Arsenal are battling to sign West Ham teenager Daniel Rigge, sources have told ESPN.

“The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract in October — and his existing deal will still have two years left to run this summer — but the attacking midfielder has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

“Spurs are said to be leading the race for his signature but Arsenal and Manchester United are among the sides tracking Rigge, who has impressed as West Ham sit second in the Premier League under-18s table, two points behind leaders Chelsea.”

Rigge can play all across the frontline and on the wings and he could prove to be an astute purchase moving forward.

It is good to hear Sir Jim Ratcliffe mentioning the importance of buying young instead of the club’s recent plan of signing only mercenaries.

INEOS should definitely focus on youth recruitment moving forward, an aspect that was in ruins under the Glazers a few years ago. There have already been reports of United returning to the South American market to unearth the next big superstar.

"Watching this unfold is crazy": Yorke tells Ten Hag exactly what to do with much-maligned full back

Manchester United treble hero, Dwight Yorke, has claimed that Erik ten Hag should just let current defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka get on with his game.

The Englishman has lost his place to Diogo Dalot as the first choice right back in the team but the huge amount of injuries United have suffered in this campaign has still given him the chance to play plenty of minutes.

However, he has never really convinced fans with his attacking display in spite of his outstanding tackling abilities.

Dalot is widely considered the more rounded right back of the two and hence the manager’s preference for the Portuguese.

Moreover, since the Dutchman has been in the job, there have been numerous rumours about the Mancunian side wanting to upgrade their right back department.

Jeremie Frimpong has often been the player most linked to a move to Manchester owing to his outstanding attacking credentials.

However, according to Dwight Yorke, Ten Hag does not need a replacement and should just let Wan-Bissaka play his current game.

The Trinidad and Tobago international already gave his thoughts on a range of issues in an exclusive interview with The Peoples Person on Marcus Rashford’s future, Ten Hag’s job security and which striker he would like United to bring in during the summer window.

Speaking to Crypto Casino LTD (via The Sun) Yorke has now claimed, “If Jeremie Frimpong is a bit fragile defensively, then he’ll be bought for a certain system by the manager.

“Nowadays, fullbacks play much higher up the pitch and can play in all types of systems, but I don’t know how Erik ten Hag wants to play.

“Man United already have a good right back in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but you can say he’s the opposite of Frimpong, great defensively but not that great going forward.”

Therefore, Yorke argued that the United coach should find a way to play to his strengths and proceeded to give the former Ajax coach some tactical advice.

“When we attack, we should be letting Wan Bissaka sit back and offer more defensive protection, handling the one v one on the wing. But instead, he’s told to bomb up the wing and try to take on a player, which he can’t do.

“Erik ten Hag should take away Wan-Bissaka’s attacking duties and make him defend, then they can have some solidarity in the defence.

“Instead, Wan-Bissaka, who doesn’t score or create, run around like a headless chicken in the opposition box, running in his teammates’ way.

“It’s not rocket science, watching this unfold is crazy. The one thing you need in the defence is to be able to defend one v one. Just let him f—ing defend.”

Many United fans have accepted, like Yorke, Wan-Bissaka will never be able to make any meaningful improvement in his on-the-ball ability.

However, if used properly, he can be a potent weapon against a skilful winger like he was against Allan Saint-Maximin in the Carabao cup final last season, when he successfully nullified the Frenchman.

Top of Europe with resilience to match, this United superstar in a class of his own - opinion

Manchester United had to rally back from being a goal down on two separate occasions against Premier League bottom club Sheffield United on Wednesday.

The Red Devils eventually emerged 4-2 victors with captain Bruno Fernandes leading from the front as the hosts played a more possession-based approach instead of Erik ten Hag’s usual chaos ball.

The Portuguese has once again been a revelation, despite a difficult campaign for the club with the 29-year-old currently the top-scorer with 15 goals and has the most assists with 11.

His goal against the Blades meant he has now scored in five successive matches for the first time since joining the club while he has also created 99 chances in the Premier League this season, the most among all players.

Bruno, the magician

Not only in England, but Fernandes also tops the chances created chart all across Europe. Yet pundits and experts claim Martin Odegaard and Kevin de Bruyne are better than the Portuguese! He remains underrated even among the fanbase.

The club captain inspires everyone around him not only in terms of on-field achievements but also in the manner he conducts himself off the pitch.

Staying away from the spotlight, willing to help everyone as seen from his delightful social media interactions with younger players, truly puts the Portugal international apart.

His availability record remains stellar with the player never missing a game for the Red Devils through injury. This season, the Dutch manager has revealed many times during press conferences that Fernandes is an injury doubt.

But the 29-year-old has always pulled through. The Sheffield game was the most recent example. The attacking midfielder had broken his hand during the nerve-wracking FA Cup semi-final win against Coventry City.

Ten Hag said he was a huge doubt but the player insisted on starting against Chris Wilder’s team according to The Times and he ended up with two goals and an assist.

What a player!

“Bruno Fernandes’ match-winning performance against Sheffield United appears even more remarkable given that he was playing with a broken hand.

“Erik ten Hag revealed on Tuesday that Fernandes was a doubt for the match at Old Trafford after injuring his hand in a fall during the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City three days before.

“Fernandes played the entirety of the fixture, however, and was one of the star performers in the 4-2 home win, scoring twice and setting up the final goal, which was scored by Rasmus Hojlund.

“It is understood that Fernandes broke his right hand during the match against Coventry but still insisted on playing against Sheffield United.”

Remarkable from the skipper and the club are truly lucky to have signed such a superstar. He is the best post-Sir Alex Ferguson signing by a country mile.

Hopefully, he can carry on in the same vein and ensure a decent end to a disappointing campaign and ensure further silverware in the form of the FA Cup come May.

United urged to sign the "best all-round centre-forward in the league" by former PL winner

Manchester United’s disappointing season will have left INEOS in no doubt of the size of the rebuild required at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag and his troops have underperformed throughout the campaign with the multiple attackers struggling this year.

United are comfortably the lowest scorers in the top half of the Premier League and will no doubt be adding an attacker or two to the ranks this summer.

With a raft of names being linked with bolstering United’s firepower, former United defender Paul Parker has weighed in on the debate.

Parker believes that Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins is the perfect fit for Old Trafford whilst dismissing the notion of Brentford’s Ivan Toney joining the club.

As reported by mybettingsites.com, when asked if he felt Toney would provide a solution to aid Rasmus Hojlund in United’s attack, Parker’s answer was staunch.

“No. Not really. It’s got to be someone of more note than Ivan Toney.

“He hasn’t had enough points on the board as a Premier League striker to be in the position of having an understudy,” he said.

Then asked about Watkins, Parker described the Villa man as “the best all-round centre-forward in the league” and believes he is a much more of a suitable option to enhance United’s striking options.

“If you’re going to bring a centre-forward in and he’s going to be UK based, in my opinion you bring in Watkins. Look at how many goals he scores, his work rate off the ball, he’s so unselfish and still scores goals,” said Parker.

However, the former full-back believes United would need a nine-figure bid to get Watkins out of Villa Park but calls a £100 million price tag a “deserved one”.

Interestingly this a view shared by Treble winning striker Dwight Yorke who, in an exclusive interview with The Peoples Person, also advised United to ignore Toney in favour of Watkins.

Yorke feels Toney “isn’t a United player” and “wouldn’t fit the system” at Old Trafford.

“I would rather take a chance with Ollie Watkins. He’s lively, he runs down the channel, his movement is much better. Toney is okay, but he’s not that mobile,” Yorke had said.

With 26 goals and 12 assists to his name this season, Watkins has emerged as one of the leading strikers in the Premier League.

There is no doubt the 28-year-old has progressed hugely under the tutelage of Unai Emery with his boundless energy and new-found confidence in front goal catapulting Villa into the coveted Champions League places.

Toney is much more of a traditional number nine while Watkins’ desire to run the channels as well as get on the end of chances is much more akin to Ten Hag’s way of playing.

However Ten Hag cannot start thinking about summer signings with United needing to end the season strong in order for the Dutchman to be in the dugout next season.

The visit of Burnley to Old Trafford on Saturday is the first of five league games Ten Hag has to navigate before the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25 which could potentially decide his future.

United "confident" of agreeing blockbuster cut-price deal for top priority target before pre-season - report

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has had to constantly reshuffle his backline due to mounting injuries and the current back four has something of a placeholder look about it.

Four of his senior centre-backs all remain sidelined and are unlikely to be fit for the upcoming game against 19th placed Burnley on Saturday.

Academy graduate Willy Kambwala also dropped out and in the last two games, defensive midfielder Casemiro has accompanied Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence.

United have conceded five times in their last two games with the duo at the back, three against Championship side Coventry City and two against Premier League bottom club Sheffield United.

United’s planned defensive overhaul

With new co-owners open to allowing Raphael Varane to leave on a free, Jonny Evans’ deal coming to an end and with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof both attracting plenty of interest, United need an elite defender in the summer.

Their top priority remains Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton, who fits INEOS’ vision of signing young British players with Premier League experience.

With the Toffees under increasing financial pressure, they will likely have to sell their top stars before June 30 in order to balance the books.

As relayed by The Peoples Person recently, United are willing to agree an early deal for the centre-back should the team from Merseyside be willing to reduce their asking price from the earlier indicated ludicrous £100 million.

As per Football Insider, the Red Devils are now confident of agreeing a deal for the 21-year-old for £60-70 million before June ends.

This would mean the player would be in Manchester before pre-season starts, something that has not often transpired during the Glazers regime.

“Man United are confident a bid of between £60-70 million will be enough to land Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, sources have told Football Insider.

“It is believed the 21-year-old could be sold by Everton before 30 June to include his fee in their accounts for the 2023-24 campaign and avoid further points deductions.

“The Toffees are desperate to keep the centre-back but are likely to cash in to attempt to avoid a further brush with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).”

United confident of agreeing Branthwaite deal

The 21-year-old has looked wobbly at times, but that is expected considering his age and the difficult season that Sean Dyche’s men have endured.

Branthwaite is good on the ball and is two-footed, which can be a huge help, and is in the top three percent among Premier League defenders for duels won, interceptions and recoveries (via Fotmob).

New technical director Jason Wilcox is a fan, and the defender also got a ringing endorsement from former United great Ruud van Nistelrooy during his loan spell in the Netherlands.

Manchester City, Chelsea, and even Real Madrid were interested in the Carlisle-born star and INEOS agreeing an early deal would send out a powerful message to the footballing world that they mean business.

United fans emerge triumphant as club forced to scrap controversial policy

Manchester United had recently announced that they would be making changes to the amount of games fans would need to attend in order to renew their season ticket at Old Trafford.

The 17/19 proposal required fans to attend 17 out of the 19 home league games to then qualify for a renewal the following season.

The previous bar was set at 14 games and a three match jump might have proved too much for some match-going Reds.

Options were available to send tickets back to the club that would then be marked as “used” but fans were not happy with the new policy.

Now, as confirmed by the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST), the club have agreed to lower the attendance stipulation.

After positive discussions, season ticket holders will now only have to to attend 15 matches next season in order to keep their seat for the following campaign.

Additionally, MUST confirmed “further increases from 15 to 16 and 17 will only take place with close analysis of the data to prove the policy is working, and in consultation with the Fans Forum.”

Furthermore, “the minimum usage will never rise by more than one game per season, and is capped at a maximum of 17 and for games which have not sold out and where buy-back from the club is disabled (such as Sheffield United last night), you will be allowed to forward your ticket to non-members as well as members,” explained the Trust.

The news will be seen as a huge result for match-going fans who are often the last to be considered when it comes to changes in policies or schedules.

United have just three games remaining at Old Trafford this season, starting with Burnley’s visit to Manchester tomorrow (Saturday).

Then comes two interesting looking fixtures against Newcastle and Arsenal respectively, which will play a huge part in where United finish in what has been a wretched league campaign for Erik ten Hag and his troops.

United currently sit in sixth position in the Premier League and are fighting to qualify for next season’s Europa League.

Gardening leave for INEOS' marquee man to end in mid-July as new era inches closer - report

The people are set to assume position with the exception of Dan Ashworth and the new era can begin at pace soon.

Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan reports that Omar Berrada, the new CEO of Manchester United, is set to start working in mid-July.

He was put on gardening leave by City after United agreed to sign him at the start of the year in a huge announcement after INEOS’ stake got confirmed.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe praised City for how they handled his departure amicably and put it in contrast to Newcastle’s stance with Dan Ashworth.

Considering Berrada’s departure was announced in mid-January, a six-month gardening leave would put his arrival by mid-July, which is exactly what this report states.

He is expected to lead the revolution at United with all the other appointments reporting to him.

So far, Jason Wilcox has been the only one through the door and he has attended multiple United games sitting alongside Sir David Brailsford.

Dan Ashworth remains on gardening leave as United and Newcastle remain apart on their valuation of the final compensation.

There has been interest in other positions as well, with Ipswich’s Sam Williams also close to moving.

In the meantime, the departures have been rapid, with the likes of John Murtough and Richard Arnold leaving the club and Darren Fletcher’s role being restructured.

From Berrada’s point of view, his remit encompasses both sporting and financial spheres and he will lead the transformation of the club under the new ownership.

He replaces Richard Arnold and his arrival in mid-July will coincide with the transfer window gathering momentum as well.

As long as every new appointment is not in place, it is fair to assume that no earth-shattering moves will be made but the quicker that happens, that timeline moves to a better position.

It’s 2/3 right now and all the focus is on Ashworth for United to have their new-look team in place for the start of the new season and hopefully, a new era.

"He will return": Ten Hag rules out five players but says summer signing could be back for Burnley clash

Manchester United were made to sweat by the Premier League’s bottom club Sheffield United, who twice took the lead but eventually the Red Devils prevailed 4-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Andre Onana gifted the opener to Jayden Bogle pretty much against the run of play before Harry Maguire equalised right before half-time.

Ben Brereton Diaz once again put the Blades in front early in the second half forcing captain Bruno Fernandes to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

The Portuguese scored twice and registered an assist with Erik ten Hag’s side putting up a much more controlled display where the team tried to hold on to possession instead of relying on counter-attacks.

New style

Whether this approach was instigated by new technical director Jason Wilcox’s instructions remain unclear but with 19th-placed Burnley set for a visit to Old Trafford next, this approach is expected to continue.

Against the Blades, Christian Eriksen made a rare start, only his second in 2024, which enabled the team to retain hold of the ball better and once again, the onus will fall on the midfield to dictate the tempo against Vincent Kompany’s team.

And the Dutchman revealed that his midfield reserves will be strengthened as Mason Mount could be fit to play after he missed out against Coventry City and Sheffield United.

The new-look backline of Casemiro and Harry Maguire is expected to continue despite conceding five goals against lowly opposition as none of the sidelined defenders are expected to be back in contention.

“For coming back for the game against Burnley, I don’t expect them (the defenders). Mason Mount, he will return, I think,” Ten Hag told BBC’s Match of the Day.

Mount could be back

For the former Chelsea star, his debut campaign in red has been nothing short of disastrous, with the player missing 28 games through three separate injury spells.

It was thought that the United No 7 would bounce back and silence his critics after his first goal for the club against Brentford but he promptly got injured again.

It would be good for Mount’s confidence if he can get on the ball a bit more in this new style against the Clarets, a team which is low on confidence.

With big games against Newcastle, Arsenal and Brighton coming up in the league ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City, Ten Hag will be hoping his summer signing can avoid another injury setback while also gaining in confidence so that he can prove why the club shelled out £55 million for his services.

How INEOS are planning on generating additional £20m during United's pre-season tour explained - report

Manchester United have disappointed big time with manager Erik ten Hag under immense pressure with fans desperate to see this season come to an end.

Supporters are already looking forward to next year as new co-owners INEOS plot plenty of changes behind-the-scenes and on the field.

The pre-season tour of the United States has already been announced with fresh faces and renewed optimism expected.

As reported by Football Insider, United are in talks to extend their tour of the States with senior figures at the club hoping to generate around £20 million revenue from the trip.

The decision has come after the Premier League and FA announced they will be scrapping FA Cup replays which will extend the summer break for teams in the top-flight.

It’s believed United have opened conversations with multiple clubs to arrange further friendly games that will include deals with sponsors and chosen venues.

United have already confirmed thy will be sourcing individual sponsors for their games in the US, rather than take part in the organised tournaments on offer.

Friendly matches have been announced against Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool on July 27 and August 3, respectively.

The Arsenal game will take place in Los Angeles before the team travel to South Carolina to face old rivals Liverpool, who will be under new management for the first time in almost a decade.

Naturally, the visit of United will cause huge excitement across the pond and with senior figures aware that revenue raised in the 2024-25 accounting period will contribute to their budget under new financial rules, will look to cash in on the extra time granted this summer.

No official communication has come from United but given the need for funds at Old Trafford, it would not be a surprise to see an extra game or two get squeezed into the programme.

Before that however, Erik ten Hag will be desperate for a strong end to the season to give him the best chance of leading the team to the States after a disastrous second season in charge.

The FA Cup final takes place a month from today and looks like Ten Hag’s only hope of saving his position at Old Trafford.

Former United manager could land knockout blow to Ten Hag's summer plans - report

The managerial merry-go-round is set to be in full swing this summer with some of Europe’s biggest clubs making changes at the top.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich are officially looking for a new head coach and huge question marks remain over Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United.

In a twist to the tale, former United interim coach Ralf Rangnick is a strong favourite to take over at Bayern with the outgoing Thomas Tuchel being touted as Ten Hag’s potential successor.

Rangnick served as the interim manager at Old Trafford for the second half of the 2021/22 season after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Whilst the German couldn’t find the formula on the pitch, he was due to form part of the backroom staff to help build the club from the inside out at the end of that season.

However, the role failed to materialise as Ten Hag chose to bring his own staff in while Rangnick was appointed as the Austrian national team manager, but not before he delivered some home truths.

“Open heart surgery” was required according to the 65-year-old and his plan was to bring in new players who could play a more dominant style.

Two of the names mentioned were Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Bayer Leverkusen right back, Jeremie Frimpong.

Now, as reported by HITC, the experienced coach is hoping to sign the very same players, should he take up the Bayern offer.

De Jong, in particular, looked set for a spell at United after Ten Hag made him a clear priority target in his first summer at the club. Frimpong has remained a target for over two seasons now and he remains a target ahead of the summer window.

Rangnick’s talent for building squads is there for all to see and United fans might well see the vision for their side come to life in Munich.

Meanwhile, United are entering a new era at Old Trafford with INEOS taking control of the sporting structure at the club.

The new minority owners will have ideas of their own with United supporters desperately hoping for an upturn in fortunes, particularly in the league.

Ten Hag’s troops have suffered a wretched campaign, sitting in sixth position in the Premier League and quite frankly, lucky to be that high in a season littered with below-par performances.

The run to the FA Cup final has granted Ten Hag a stay of execution but expect changes aplenty at Old Trafford this coming summer.

United's very own "Lionel Messi" set for first-team debut during PL run-in - report

Manchester United managed to scrape past Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-finals last weekend to make it back-to-back FA Cup finals under the stewardship of Erik ten Hag.

However, relinquishing a three-goal lead against a team from the Championship and eventually requiring penalties to make the summit clash was frowned upon by many, much to the disgust of the Dutchman.

But whatever the manager says will not change the fact that the current campaign has been a major disappointment with the Red Devils crashing out of Europe at the first time of asking while being on course to record their worst-ever finish in the history of the Premier League.

The only silver lining this season has been the emergence of academy graduates Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo with both looking like superstars-in-the-making.

The Academy has come up with all the answers

The Argentine has notched nine goals and four assists this season, and is the third-highest goalscorer in the squad at the age of 19.

As for the Englishman, he has netted thrice, all three of them being memorable strikes while playing with a level of maturity in midfield not seen from someone so young. He is on course to play for the Three Lions in the upcoming European Championships.

The famed United academy has come up with answers for the manager when many established names have failed with Willy Kambwala stepping up in defence due to the injury crisis prevalent at the club while the likes of Omari Forson, and Dan Gore both made their first-team debuts this term.

More could be on the way if The Sun are to be believed. Shea Lacey, considered among the brightest talents to emerge from Carrington, could be about to earn a first team debut before the season concludes.

Dubbed as “United’s very own Lionel Messi“, the versatile winger recently signed his first professional contract with the club and more surprises are on its way.

The United matchday bench has been made up of academy youngsters like Harry Amass, Habeeb Ogunneye and debut number 250 is on the horizon.

Lacey’s first-team debut on the cards

“Top kid Shea Lacey is set to get a game at Manchester United by the end of the season. Winger Lacey has been training with the first team after an injury caused by a growth spurt and is pencilled in for a debut in the run-in,” the report stated.

The 17-year-old has made 10 appearances this season for the U18s and U19s combined, scoring twice and providing four assists as the United U18s have run rampant, clinching a league and cup double.

He is yet to make a matchday squad but has been training consistently with the first team. Games against bottom dwellers Sheffield United and Burnley are up next and ideally, those would have presented the best chances of a debut.

But following their capitulation against Coventry City on Sunday, United can ill-afford to take anything for granted and need to win all three points while also performing to an acceptable level.
