Enigmatic midfielder will "100% leave Manchester United this summer" - Fabrizio Romano

Fred will “100% leave Manchester United this summer”, according to Frabrizio Romano.

Though his potential new club remains unclear, the Italian transfer guru is under no doubts the midfielder will be departing Old Trafford.

Galatasaray have been the club most strongly linked with Fred, though Romano believes this prospective deal is becoming “complicated” and, consequently, “other clubs are entering the race.”

Lazio and Fulham have been rumoured to be interested in Fred, alongside the Turkish side, and may attempt to capitalise. Romano also contends a move to Saudi Arabia is a “possibility” and United fans should “keep an eye” on this.

Ultimately, Romano believes that the club will work with Fred to choose the potential “best option” for the player. There is no doubt on United’s desire to sell however.

Fred’s prospective outbound transfer appears linked to the club’s pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat.

Romano asserts the club wish to sell Fred to “make the deal happen” for the Moroccan midfielder, indicating United may be facing financial restrictions after their exorbitant summer so far.

The signings of Erik ten Hag’s first-choice targets – Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Højlund – ensure the club have committed to a minimum spend of £166 million this window alone. For the club to continue further recruitment to Old Trafford, players must depart in the opposite direction.

Though Fred has proven a valuable squad member at times under Ten Hag’s stewardship, the manager would prioritise a player more adept in the defensive midfield position over the box-to-box Brazilian. Fred is a potent presser but lacks the requisite composure and control to operate deeper in midfield.

Furthermore, Scott McTominay’s status as a homegrown player, as well as his attitude and leadership qualities, ensure Fred is further along the departure queue than the other half of the much-maligned McFred pivot. Though Fred has proven the more effective player of the pair over the past few seasons, McTominay’s value off the pitch is higher.

Romano believes United will “focus” on Amrabat more decisively now they have almost finished the deal with Atalanta for Højlund.

With the club appearing to be operating on a one-in one-out policy in midfield, Fred will “100% leave” Old Trafford to make room for the Fiorentina man.

Not finished yet: United plotting further signings this summer - report

Manchester United have been busy this summer transfer window with the signings of Mason Mount and Andre Onana expected to be followed by Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund’s £72 million move from Atalanta will push United’s expenditure to over £150 million as Erik ten Hag looks to bridge the gap between themselves and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is open to further additions to bolster the squad depth going into the new season.

“We are always looking for better quality. So if you want to be at United you have to match a really high standard and when we find the opportunities to get better we have to do it,” said Ten Hag.

However, any further signings will be dependent on United offloading players to add to the summer budget which has now been spent.

United are open to offers for a cluster of first-team players and any funds raised through sales will be added to Ten Hag’s kitty.

Dean Henderson, Harry Maguire, Fred and Scott McTominay are seen as the most prominent players United are willing to let go.

Fred has been the subject of interest from Turkish champions Galatasaray who reportedly remain in discussion with United over a deal for the Brazilian.

West Ham had a formal £20 million offer for Harry Maguire rejected last week whilst Nottingham Forest remain keen on the permanent signing of Dean Henderson after he spent last season on loan at the City Ground.

In terms of incomings, Sofyan Amrabat has been widely linked with a move to Old Trafford after an impressive season for Fiorentina.

Fiorentina are open to offers for the Moroccan who would command a fee of around £30 million to take him away from the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

No doubt Ten Hag would welcome further additions but with Mount, Onana and seemingly Hojlund in the bag, the Dutch manager has secured his primary targets well in time for the new campaign.

Video: "Nice try": Bruno Fernandes fights back on Onana controversy

Bruno Fernandes has responded to rumours of a rift between himself and Manchester United’s new number 1, Andre Onana.

Following United’s defeat to Real Madrid in their pre-season America tour, some social media users highlighted an incident within the game where Bruno appeared to have ignored Onana.

The incident in question came after United had given away a corner, and were setting up to defend it.

Onana, who is known for being vocal, yelled out to Fernandes telling him where he wanted him to take up defensive positions.

According to the eagle-eyed social media commenters, Bruno appeared to ignore Onana, brushing past him without making eye contact as the Cameroonian spoke to him.

One poster said, “Captain Bruno doesn’t want anyone to correct him or advise him. Bruno completing (sic) ignores new signing Onana.”

But in the comments on the post, Bruno responded to the person who made the comment, saying:

‘Nice how you could see me ignoring him when I was going to the place he was telling me to be positioned in the corner.’

‘Nice try to make it look bad.’

In perspective, the incident is not likely to bother Erik ten Hag much.

On-pitch disagreements between players are not unusual, and with Bruno having clarified that this was not even the case, the matter can safely be laid to rest.

United star could be England's saviour as Walsh replacement sought

As Keira Walsh left England’s second group game on crutches on Friday, attention turned to who could replace such a vital part of the Lionesses squad.

Although the injury doesn’t seem to be as bad as first feared, she will definitely miss tomorrow’s game against China.

City’s Laura Coombs finished out the game against Denmark in her place but the Lionesses performance fell flat after that.

United’s Captain Katie Zelem was expected to spend much of the tournament on the bench, but with the injury to Walsh, she could be called upon to play a slightly more active role in this team.

She fought off competition from Aston Villa’s Lucy Staniforth to make the squad, having been pushed out of the final 23-player selection for the Euros last year.

She has only made eight appearances for England and hasn’t been a mainstay in Sarina Wiegman’s set-up.

However, she is used to being a pivot player at club level and could be a strong replacement for Walsh.

She connects the attack and defence effortlessly for Manchester United and has a good passing accuracy.

Furthermore, she is a set-piece specialist, a number of key goals for the Reds came from Zelem’s free-kick and corner deliveries last season.

Other options include Jordan Nobbs, who is more experienced at International level and Coombs again.

However, Emma Sanders from the BBC predicts that Wiegman may be forced to change formation “from a 4-3-3 to a 4-2-1-3 with two holding midfielders doing Walsh’s job, leaving either Ella Toone or Lauren James to be creative as a number 10.”

Either way, space has opened up for Zelem as she now enters these conversations. Could she be England’s hero?

He's a "fantastic boy" - Dortmund coach praises United star amidst transfer speculation

Manchester United’s pre-season Tour of the United States ended in defeat last night, with Borussia Dortmund beating the Red Devils by three goals to two, in Las Vegas.

Diogo Dalot and Antony struck for United but a Donyell Malen brace and a Youssoufa Moukoko winner with 20 minutes remaining was enough to give the Germans the victory.

Jadon Sancho played the majority of the game in the false 9 position with Erik ten Hag plugging the gap before the imminent arrival of Rasmus Hojlund.

Sancho showed glimpses of class against his former club and was arguably United’s most impressive attacking player on the night.

Speculation surrounding the future of the United man has been rife over the last few weeks, including rumours of a return to Dortmund.

As reported by football journalist Patrick Berger, after the victory in Vegas BVB boss Edin Terzic spoke on the subject of a return for Sancho.

“Jadon is a fantastic boy and is under contract with #mufc. We do not comment on players who are not under contract with us and wish him all the best for the coming season at Manchester,” said Terzic.

Despite Sancho not quite finding the form in Manchester that he showed in Germany as yet, it would be a surprise to see him leave United this summer.

The forward has looked sharp in pre-season and his ability to be able to play in almost any of the attacking positions may prove to be an ace up Ten Hag’s sleeve this season.

Sancho’s versatility means he can operate off the left or right flank, as a ten or as we’ve seen in pre-season, in the false nine position.

The 23-year-old is entering the third and probably most important year of his United career, with fans desperate to see the Jadon Sancho that lit up the Bundesliga.

Sancho will be vying for a starting place in the new season’s curtain raiser when Wolves visit Old Trafford on August 14.

"It's nothing against Harry": Ten Hag makes brutal admission about Maguire's future

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has opened up about the tough decisions he made to let David de Gea go and strip Harry Maguire of the captaincy.

In a Q&A with journalists in Las Vegas (via The MEN), the boss said that making tough decisions such as this represents “the difference between a manager and a human being.”

“In the end, top football is about getting results and then you have to make decisions but you have to do it in an honest and transparent way,” he said.

“The club appointed me to take such decisions in these moments.”

Ten Hag was asked specifically about removing Maguire as captain, and insisted “it’s nothing against Harry”.

“It was in advantage of the team, then you have to make the decision,” he said.

“But I will not say that Harry isn’t part of this group. He has to fight for his position.

“He is a very good centre-back, and I believe in the potential of Harry Maguire.”

One reporter challenged the manager, commenting “You say you believe in him but the evidence suggests otherwise. Does Harry need to move on to play regularly, going forward?”

“Didn’t I play him?,” was Ten Hag’s terse response.

“I have often chosen a player ahead of Harry, that’s true… But he has to show he is better for the team than Rapha or Victor. I think that’s a really normal situation in top football.”

This brutal response also clearly revealed Ten Hag’s stance that it is only the right centre back position that Maguire would be considered for. Historically, the England man played LCB, a role now ruled out of bounds for him, it seems, no matter how well he plays.

Asked to confirm that it is up to Maguire whether he stays or leaves, Ten Hag said:

“Exactly. When you are at Man United you have to fight for your position and bring your skills in and prove you are the best for the team, and contribute the most.”

Former United midfielder a shock "target" for Ligue 1 side - Report

Nemanja Matić has emerged as a surprise “target” for Ligue 1 side, Rennes.

The French club are reportedly preparing to lose their midfield starlet, Lesley Ugochukwu, to Chelsea, in a deal worth in the “region of €30m.”

Interestingly, the suggestion is Chelsea will then loan Ugochukwu to Strasbourg, whom share ownership with the London club.

Ugochukwu has firmly established himself in the Rennes team over the past two seasons, playing 26 times last year. Standing an imposing 188cm tall and possessing athleticism and strong defensive attributes, the French midfielder will require a like-for-like replacement in midfield.

Which is where Matić enters the fray.

Matić has been “put forward” by officials at Rennes as an option to fill this void.

While the Serbian does not possess the speed of Ugochukwu, they share similar physical profiles. Matić would also bring far greater levels of technical ability to Rennes’ midfield, as well a level of experience any dressing room would welcome.

Having joined Roma from United, Matić has played an impressive 50 times in all competitions, providing 2 goals and 2 assists in the process.

It has marked the third reunion between the Serb and manager, José Mourinho; the pair having previously worked together at Chelsea and Manchester United. Mourinho described Matić as a “genius” when he brought the midfielder to Old Trafford.

Matic’s contract at Roma has been extended automatically as he met the renewal criteria of meeting a minimum number of games last season. However, Rennes’ pursuit may be grounded in a confidence that he could now be moved on at a relatively low cost.

The French club are also reportedly targeting Tiémoué Bakayoko. The Frenchman came “through the academy” at Rennes and knows the club intimately. He is a free agent at present, having left Chelsea at the end of last season.

While Bakayoko may represent the simpler deal, a player of the profile and experience of Matić would be a significant coup for a club making a strong push for Champions League football next season.

Mason Greenwood decision date set by Man United - Fabrizio Romano

A decision on Mason Greenwood’s future at Manchester United is set to be offically announced by the club in the coming weeks.

Greenwood hasn’t played for United since the start of 2022 after allegations made against him of rape, assault and coercive behaviour toward his partner Harriet Robson.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, United will make their final decision on the forward’s future before the start of the new season.

The allegations against Greenwood have recently been dropped by the courts but United have continued to conduct their own internal investigations.

It’s believed the decision lies firmly at the club’s door, with manager Erik ten Hag having no influence on the outcome.

The nature of the claims made against Greenwood has led to many fans washing their hands of the youngster, who will be bracing himself for the backlash should he continue playing at United.

Greenwood’s talent has never been in doubt with the forward seemingly having the world at his feet after his breakthrough to the first team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, United will be acutely aware of the fans’ feelings toward the player and will have no doubt taken that into account when making their final judgement.

United’s sponsor Adidas, who have this morning agreed a new long term deal with the club, distanced themselves from rumours they were happy to welcome Greenwood back, this week.

Many factors are in play for Greenwood, who is reportedly desperate for a second chance at United.

There are no early indications on what the decision will be but the next couple of weeks are clearly going to be career defining for the United man.

United agree to "biggest" commercial deal in Premier League history - Report

Manchester United and adidas have agreed to the “biggest kit deal” in Premier League history.

Worth a staggering £900 million, the 10-year partnership extends the German sportwear giant’s role as official kit supplier of United until 2035, and ensures a “significant increase” on the current terms of their deal. This translates to revenue worth £90 million annually for United.

Sources at Old Trafford indicates the new deal provides the club with “certainty” over their “biggest source” of income for the next decade, helping to reinforce “stability” at United.

Richard Arnold, United’s Chief Executive,  described the relationship between the club and their sponsor as:

“…one of the most iconic in world sport, forged through a shared commitment to style, flair and, most importantly, high performance.”

His adidas comparative, Bjorn Gulden, echoes these sentiments:

“Adidas and Manchester United are two of the most important brands in international football and it is very natural for us to continue our co-operation.”

Adidas had sponsored United previously, from 1980 to 1992, but the two entities only rekindled this relationship at the beginning of the 2015/16 season. The agreement to extend this all the way through to 2035 locks club and sponsor into a two decade-long partnership.

United sources indicate it is the most lucrative deal in the history of English football, trumping the previous 10-year £750 million partnership they possessed with Adidas.

United also stress the additional funds will be spread throughout the club, with the deal enabling them to “increase the focus on the women’s team,” reintroduced in 2018.

Amidst uncertainty over the club’s long-term future, with the protracted takeover saga having no definitive conclusion in sight, a deal of this magnitude will provide assurances of United’s continuing commercial hegemony.

Fans will, however, be hoping this commercial might will soon translate into comparable success on the pitch.

United star has “risen to Ten Hag’s challenge”, set to start opening game of season - report

Apart from incomings and outgoings, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag also needs to bring out the best out of players already at the club.

So far, he has proved a master at that with Marcus Rashford the perfect example. From looking to leave the club under interim manager Ralf Rangnick to scoring a career-best 30 goals last term, the Mancunian has certainly earned his new long-term deal.

But he will not find it easy to play in his preferred left wing position after the season Alejandro Garnacho just had. The 19-year-old registered five goals and as many assists in only 11 starts across all competitions.

Garnacho, the rising superstar at United

The Argentine was a breath of fresh air, attacking without fear, and always looking to be positive on the ball, unlike struggling winger Jadon Sancho.

The Peoples Person had reported in the past that Ten Hag was considering using the academy graduate more to allow the England international to get some rest as he was close to burnout last campaign.

The Sun have now claimed that the Argentina international has impressed with his application in training and he has played his way into the manager’s plans for the start of the season.

“Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho is increasingly playing his way into ten Hag’s starting plans for the new season. Garnacho returned early to training and has continued to impress the Reds chief during their preparations.

“Insiders say he has risen to Ten Hag’s challenge to force his way into the line-up that he is set to begin the season as one of United’s key figures.”

Conditions ripe for starting the opening games

With a deal for Rasmus Hojlund still to be announced officially, the Dane is unlikely to get more than one friendly game before the season commences.

That will mean more game time for Garnacho, who could be in line for a few starts on the left wing in the beginning if keeps improving.

Sancho is being trialed as a false nine while Rashford could play up front. Anthony Martial has only recently rejoined training.

The number of starts could go up drastically as compared to last season’s tally and Ten Hag’s passionate words after his new contract seems to have stirred him up even more with Vinicius Jr “blown away” with his talent.

Ten Hag favourite confesses he thought about leaving United before signing new deal

Marcus Rashford has admitted he thought about leaving Manchester United before Erik ten Hag arrived at the club last summer.

The 2022/23 season saw Rashford produce his best season yet in front of goal. The forward managed an impressive 17 goals for United in the Premier League and netted 30 times in all competitions.

His campaign was a far cry from the previous one under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which saw Rashford score only five goals.

Under Rangnick especially, the 25-year-old lost his place in the starting XI, with the German coach preferring Anthony Elanga instead.

Once during a Manchester derby, Rangnick elected to deploy Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba as false nines, with Rashford reduced to a place on the bench.

It has been a different story under Ten Hag who is an avid admirer of the player.

Rashford recently put pen to paper on a new contract to extend his Old Trafford career.

However, according to the player himself, at one point, he harboured thoughts of cutting ties with his boyhood club amidst interest in his services from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain.

Asked whether he thought about leaving, the Carrington academy graduate admitted, “before the manager came maybe a little bit, but it’s football, it happens. Everything is going to happen for a reason and he came to the club at the right time for me, the timing worked out.”

“Now the conversation is a little bit different because I think it’s clear, the manager is very ambitious and he has been since the minute he stepped in. I didn’t really have doubt in my mind about that.”

He added, “I’m hungry to keep improving and when the squad and the players and the staff keep improving and getting used to each other, pushing ourselves to be better than we were the year before. Ultimately that’s the only way we’re going to get back to winning trophies consistently.”

With his future sorted and Ten Hag bringing in reinforcements to share the burden of finding the back of the net, Rashford will undoubtedly be aiming to do one better when the new season kicks off and become even more prolific.

Ten Hag demands players improve to the "next levels" in candid interview - Report

Erik ten Hag has spoken on a wide range of subjects in a candid interview during his team’s pre-season tour of America.

Speaking to the BBC, The Dutchman stated his Manchester United squad must “raise the bar” next season as the side continues to be reconstructed in their manager’s image. A better level of “consistency” is integral to the targets Ten Hag has set them.

As confirmation of the agreement between Atalanta and United for the transfer of Rasmus Højlund emerged, the club’s spending this summer has now reached a minimum of £166 million. Big moves and big decisions, made at the behest of Ten Hag, demonstrate the faith United officials possess in their manager.

Ten Hag spoke of his satisfaction with his first season at Old Trafford, but quickly stressed “we are not where we want to be.”

While United were able to “beat any opponent” last season, they could not do so on a “consistent basis.” Eliminating this inconsistency is the “step we have to make,” Ten Hag contends.

His new selection of recruits, including Mason Mount and Andre Onana, will help the team make this step. Onana, in particular, will be vital to the continued evolution of the side; “With him, something will change in our game,” the manager said.

Ten Hag further stressed his happiness with the fact the two players were able to be a significant part of United’s pre-season, as this is fundamental to “integrating in the team and getting social connections.” Football is a “team sport and you need partnerships” to be successful, he remarked.

The Dutch manager was also ardent in his belief that the continued uncertainty over Harry Maguire’s future would not affect the team on the pitch, in the same way Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive exit from Old Trafford did not, saying:

“We are building a project. We want to win trophies so we have to invest in the way we play, we have to invest in the team. And our focus is not on one player.”

Ten Hag spoke about his relationship with the Glazers, with whom he has a “good information line”, as well as his belief that the emerging Saudi Arabian league was not a “problem” for the Premier League given that the “big players” still wish to play in England; a comment which will have undoubtedly enraged a certain Portuguese forward.

The overaching tone of the interview centred on the need for continued progress however.

Ten Hag has been significantly financially backed, for the second summer in a row, with the acquisition of his three first-choice targets. He knows the pressure will be on for United’s rebuild to continue in a similarly positive manner to his first season. Ten Hag asserts this will only occur if his players are capable of improving to the “next levels.”

Powerful possible Man United XI with Onana, Mount and Hojlund

Manchester United have been busy in the summer market with the signings of Mason Mount and Andre Onana already completed.

Manager Erik ten Hag now has also got his preferred striker with Rasmus Hojlund set to follow the duo to Old Trafford.

Atalanta have accepted United’s £72million offer and Hojlund’s transfer is expected to be made official in the coming days.

The United manager was desperate for reinforcements up front this summer and the United board have delivered on his primary targets with just over two weeks until the new season gets underway.

After deciding against extending David de Gea’s contract, a new goalkeeper was a must and Ten Hag has turned to a trusted ally in Onana, whom he had coached at Ajax.

Mount is expected to add legs and quality to United’s engine room and Hojlund will be tasked with spearheading Ten Hag’s attack which was far too profligate last season.

All three new signings will be expecting to start the first game of the new campaign with the United boss likely to opt for a 4-3-3 system.

With Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes guaranteed starters, Mason Mount will take the place of Christian Eriksen who, despite his obvious quality, doesn’t quite have the legs to press for the entire duration of 90 minutes.

Ten Hag will be expecting his side to win the ball back as high as possible next season and Hojlund’s pace and energy will also help the manager further implement his philosophy.

United’s top scorer from last season, Marcus Rashford will start from the left flank with Antony, the only natural option from the right hand side, likely to keep his place in the starting XI.

However, despite the new attacking options, United’s biggest change in style will come from the goalkeeper.

Onana’s attributes couldn’t be more different to De Gea’s, who has kept goal for United for over a decade. The Cameroonian will start much further up the pitch which will allow United to squeeze the press in the opposition half.

Furthermore, Onana’s quality on the ball will see United’s ability to play out from the back dramatically increase allowing Ten Hag’s men to confidently hold on to the ball even under pressure.

The centre-back pairing of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane will be excited to play in front of Onana with Luke Shaw guaranteed to start at left back following Tyrell Malacia’s injury.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka looks to have the edge as compared to Diogo Dalot at right-back but the Portuguese could easily get the nod as the season progresses.

The three additions are very much Ten Hag’s choice and the Dutch boss will be delighted that he has his targets in before the season kicks off unlike last season.

Any further signings from this point will depend on outgoings and are not expected to be immediate first team starters.

Ten Hag will be desperate to get off to a good start when the season kicks off against Wolves at Old Trafford on August 14.

United planning offer for CL winner who has made a great "impression" on Ten Hag - report

Manchester United have already strengthened in midfield, in goal and are one step away from officially reinforcing their attack.

Mason Mount is expected to add creativity and energy to the midfield while Andre Onana should change the way the team plays out from the back after disappointing displays led to David de Gea’s departure.

After months of complaining, manager Erik ten Hag finally will see firepower being added up front and despite his relative inexperience, Rasmus Hojlund is expected to take a bit of the load off Marcus Rashford‘s shoulders.

Earlier in the window, it seemed certain that the Reds will also bring in a new recruit in defence with the future of Harry Maguire uncertain.

Defensive changes

Serie A champion Kim Min-jae was the preferred choice but with United finding it difficult to offload the Englishman, the South Korean ended up moving to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Maguire’s wages and United’s asking price have so far put off West Ham but options like Chelsea are still alive and there is a chance the former skipper leaves before the window closes.

United would ideally prefer to bring in another experienced head but Ten Hag also wants another defensive midfielder and a versatile forward and that might leave very little room in the budget for a centre-back.

The Sun have reported that the Red Devils could turn to Jonny Evans in that case. The United academy graduate recently signed a short-term deal the club until pre-season.

That deal was scheduled to end after the Wrexham game but the Northern Ireland skipper has been asked to stay back and is currently part of first-team training.

The 35-year-old is said to have impressed the United boss to such an extent that a new one-year contract could be in the offing in case Maguire does end up leaving.

“Jonny Evans has made such an impression on Manchester United’s coaching team that he could stay on beyond the summer. Insiders say Evans is in such good shape he could be part of the squad for the new campaign.

Evans could stay on

“United could lose Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly in the current window, and with the ongoing takeover saga muddying the waters over the transfer kitty, Ten Hag is wary of being left short.

“Evans’ leadership qualities, and ability to play from the back, have caught the manager’s eye – and could see him being given a contract.”

The former Leicester City star has so far played in two friendlies and he impressed against Olympique Lyon but struggled against the physically-imposing Wrexham players.

The Northern Irish centre back has won three Premier League titles at the club as well as the Champions League during his decade-long stay.

United star helps secure Norway's progression in the Women's World Cup

Manchester United Women’s midfielder Vilde Boe Risa was in action for Norway as they took on the Philippines in their final group game.

They were expected to breeze through to the last 16 prior to the tournament but they had failed to win their opening two matches, losing to New Zealand and were held to a draw by Switzerland.

Not only did they need to win their final group game if they wanted to keep their World Cup hopes alive but they were also relying on other results going there way in the other fixtures.

Any nerves heading into the fixture were quickly dispelled with Sophie Román Haug scoring after just six minutes, her first of three goals.

The second goal came 11 minutes later when Vilde Boe Risa floated in a cross which once again was met by Haug, this time with her head.

Caroline Graham Hansen, who had been vocal in the press about being left out of the side, returned and showed why she is so important to this squad by getting Norway’s third.

With neither New Zealand or Switzerland able to find the goal in the other game, Norway were now in control of their fate.

An own goal followed by a Guro Reiten penalty early in the second half put Norway well and truly out of sight and with The Philippines down to ten after Sofia Harrison made a late challenge, the game was all but over.

Haug got Norway’s sixth deep into injury time and their were scenes of jubilation and relief at the final whistle.

With Norway’s qualification secured, they are waiting to see who they will face in the last 16 with Spain or Japan the likely opponents.

Vilde Boe Risa played the full 90 minutes, getting an assist for the second goal and she has made an impact throughout this tournament for her country.

The result saw co-hosts New Zealand bow out of the competition alongside Philippines.

Harry Maguire could seal sensational switch as top 4 rivals emerge as “most likely” destination - report

Manchester United’s summer rebuild is well underway with manager Erik ten Hag fine tuning his squad for the upcoming campaign.

With Rasmus Hojlund expected to join Mason Mount and Andre Onana at Old Trafford this summer, Ten Hag is slowly but surely strengthening in key areas.

A big decision regarding the change in captaincy has further helped Ten Hag stamp his authority at the club with Bruno Fernandes replacing Harry Maguire as the leader of his first team.

Maguire’s demotion has led to inevitable questions regarding his future at the club with United open to offers for the centre-back.

West Ham recently had a £20 million bid rejected by United, a bid they deemed insufficient. If the former skipper ends up leaving, United will also need to bring in a replacement.

David Moyes is not expected to up his bid for the England man with Maguire’s inflated wages proving a stumbling block alongside the defender’s reluctance to join The Hammers.

As reported by The Mirror, Chelsea could now be a possible option for Maguire given their current lack of depth at centre-back.

Wesley Fofana’s latest injury setback has left Mauricio Pochettino with just Thiago Silva as his only central defender over the age of 24 and despite his quality Silva is certainly in the twilight of his career.

Wages wouldn’t be an issue for the London club with owner Todd Boehly splashing cash at will, since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

No official approach has been made by the Blues yet but it would be a tempting offer for Maguire should the London side come knocking.

Maguire is reportedly happy to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford but if last season is anything to go by, he will be fifth choice at centre-back for Ten Hag.

Victor Lindelof and regular left back Luke Shaw were both preferred ahead of Maguire last campaign and with his place in Gareth Southgate’s England team under threat, the 30-year-old needs to be playing games.

Expect Maguire’s future to dominate the remainder of the transfer window until a conclusion is found.

PL high-flyers "enquired" about permanent deal for United's pre-season sensation - report

Manchester United were facing a huge conundrum heading into the summer transfer window with regards to their goalkeeping situation.

However, Erik ten Hag’s intervention following the FA Cup final debacle saw David de Gea leave the club after 12 years. In came Andre Onana from Inter Milan, and he impressed against Real Madrid in his unofficial debut for the club.

The Red Devils may have solved their main goalkeeping issue but there is still a bit of work left, with the futures of quite a few goalies still hanging in the balance.

United still need a reserve keeper with Dean Henderson reluctant to play second-fiddle. Nottingham Forest are still working on a move which is likely to be a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

United’s goalkeeping department keeps changing

Tom Heaton played the whole game against Arsenal but did not emerge for the Real Madrid game and so far Ten Hag has been reluctant to let him leave with Luton Town and Everton both interested.

Interestingly, the future of Matej Kovar is still to be decided. The 23-year-old won the league with Sparta Prague last season and while they wanted him this season as well, it seems like the Reds want a permanent exit.

Kovar was very impressive in the opening two pre-season games, highlighting his skill with the ball at his feet but he found his name was missing from the US pre-season squad.

He has since gone back to Prague to undergo individual training, waiting for learn of United’s plans for him. At that point it seemed like a loan deal would be the most likely outcome.

But it seems United are open to a permanent exit. Sparta were left shocked when United asked for €7million for a outright sale, a figure far beyond their reach and they have since solved their goalkeeping crisis.

However, there is still significant interest in the Czech Republic U21 international including from the Premier League as reported by Infotbal.cz.

They have mentioned Premier League high-flyers Aston Villa as one of the interested parties who have even enquired about the terms for a transfer.

“Aston Villa looks attractive, for example , which inquired about the terms of a transfer from Manchester United. But that’s where it stayed for now, because its number one and world champion Emiliano Martínez (30) remains at the club.”

Kovar interest growing

Two unnamed Bundesliga clubs are also in the race.

Another Czech outlet iDnes.cz have mentioned Cadiz as being another interested outfit. “Cádiz, the fourteenth team in the Spanish league last season, contacted Manchester.”

If no one agrees to cough up seven to ten million euros, United will send Kovář out on another loan, but this time they want the goalie to play in the Championship.

Hull City have reportedly expressed an interest in taking the United academy graduate on loan. If Kovar succeeds in the second division, there is a chance he might see some minutes for the United first team going forward.

Kovar’s United deal lasts until 2025 with the club having the option of extending it by another year. He could have made a fine reserve keeper but Ten Hag wants someone with experience, hence his reluctance to allow Heaton to leave.

United midfielder could be spared from chopping block due to Mainoo injury - Telegraph

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is facing up to two months on the sidelines as he recovers from an ankle injury.

Undoubtedly United’s breakout star of the pre-season campaign, Mainoo had to be taken off injured during the club’s 2-0 pre-season friendly loss against Real Madrid.

A no-nonsense tackle by Casemiro on Rodrygo sent the Brazilian forward tumbling to the floor, but not before he fell squarely on Mainoo’s ankle.

A devastated Mainoo was inconsolable as he was ushered off the pitch by medics.

He was spotted on crutches with his leg enclosed inside a protective boot after the match.

The United star later took to social media to assure supporters that he will be back in action in no time. He also thanked everyone for their messages of support.

Earlier today, the club confirmed in a statement that Mainoo is expected to be ruled out for the first part of the upcoming season.

The Telegraph has now provided a clearer two-month estimate for the layoff, although they make it clear that more investigations are needed.

“Mainoo, 18, will undergo further tests in the coming days before a decision is taken on how best to treat the injury”, the outlet reports.

“But the early suggestions are he is facing around two months on the sidelines although that could change.”

This is undoubtedly a big blow for the player who seemed nailed on to play a big part in Erik ten Hag’s plans during the 2023/24 campaign which kicks off in about two weeks.

Mainoo’s setback has cast doubts on a possible Old Trafford exit for Scott McTominay, who is on West Ham’s radar.

The report states that “Ten Hag has been open to selling McTominay if a bid of around £45 million came in but the loss of Mainoo plus the prospect of multiple sales could leave the United manager short in midfield.

Those multiple sales could include Fred, who is inching closer to a departure from the club and Donny van de Beek, who is attracting interest from Real Sociedad.

“[Ten Hag] will have a decision to make now on whether he can realistically lose the Scotland international,” The Telegraph concluded.

Key Brazilian target sends big message to United with stunning World Cup display

Two players who have been identified as potential transfer targets for Manchester United Women have been in action today at the Women’s World Cup.

Last month, Brazilian striker Kerolin was identified as a potential replacement for the departing Alessia Russo.

Kerolin started in today’s clash against France, playing the full ninety minutes.

She was instrumental in the build up to her side’s equaliser in the 58th minute as she tried to pick out her teammate with a pass which took a deflection, landing perfectly at the feet of Debinha.

It had been quite a one-sided affair before half-time with France dominating and picking up on Brazil’s laid back approach to the game.

It was evenly matched in the second 45 though as a change in tactics got the best out of Pia Sundhage’s side.

Geyse, another player on United’s radar, had a quiet and ineffective game up until the switch in formation and she came alive playing in a wide position.

Unfortunately just as we started to see the best of her, she was substituted for Alves da Silva shortly after the goal.

France went on to win 2-1 with a goal from Captain Wendie Renard late on.

For United, this World Cup is a chance to window shop for the best talent around the world in a bid to fill the gaps left behind by Alessia Russo and defender, Ona Batlle.

Also linked with a move to the club is Esmee Brugts, the Netherlands international who had a strong ninety minutes against tournament favourites USA on Thursday.

Although none of the individuals rumoured to be joining the club have made headlines in this tournament so far, they have showed promise and proved to be strong team players.

Key target withdrawn from friendly squad amid imminent deal to join United - Fabrizio Romano

The biggest hint yet of Manchester United’s third signing of the transfer window being on his way has been confirmed.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Rasmus Hojlund has been dropped from the Atalanta squad for the friendly vs Bournemouth.

He says that both clubs “decided to avoid any risk” as they are close to reaching an agreement for the Danish striker.

Paris Saint-Germain had also been in the race for his signature and lodged a bid but the player’s preference was always to land at Old Trafford.

United had their first bid rejected for the striker but an improved second offer seems to have made progress, with a deal likely to be signed in the €65 million region.

It would be United’s biggest outlay in the transfer market this summer including add-ons, a steep price to pay for a 20-year-old who played his first season in a top-five league last year.

However, as The People’s Person reported earlier, Hojlund’s advanced stats show that he has the ceiling of a superstar, a fact that United could be betting on with this outlay.

Furthermore, he is a boyhood United fan, which played a part in the club agreeing to personal terms with the player quickly despite interest from other clubs.

For Erik ten Hag, it would represent a huge headache solved as the manager has been at pains to point out the glaring hole at the No 9 position at the club.

Jadon Sancho has been tried as a False 9 in pre-season while Anthony Martial’s future is under doubt as well. United lost Cristiano Ronaldo in January while Edinson Cavani left last summer.

United legends have called out the club’s transfer policy of signing older names for the striking slot which leads the club to the same predicament every few years of needing to replace.

Signing Hojlund is a departure from the trend, and the club and player will hope that he reaches his potential under the bright lights of Old Trafford.

United reveal just how long Kobbie Mainoo will be missing for

Manchester United suffered defeat in their last pre-season outing, losing to Spanish giants Real Madrid in Houston by two goals to nil.

The frustration of the loss was coupled with the sight of promising youngster Kobbie Mainoo hobbling off in the opening exchanges.

Mainoo was unfortunately caught up in a tangle in the middle of the park with Casemiro’s challenge on Rodrygo leading to the Madrid man falling into the United player.

The 18-year-old was forced off with the injury just three minutes into the game, cruelly denying him the chance to test his talents against the likes of Luka Modric and Jude Bellingham.

The club have now revealed the extent of the injury to Mainoo’s ankle, which is going to keep him out for the opening weeks of the new season.

“The midfielder is expected to be ruled out for the first part of the 2023/24 season,” the club reports on its official site.

It’s a huge blow for the youngster, who was tipped for a breakthrough season at the Theatre of Dreams after impressing in pre-season.

Erik ten Hag clearly has trust in the player having chosen Mainoo in his stronger team selections in the opening pre-season games.

His performance in the victory against Arsenal was especially eye-catching with the young man dominating a midfield packed with superstars.

Despite the setback Mainoo is staying positive and posted a message for United fans on his social media after the news broke.

“I’ll be back stronger and in no time. Thanks for your messages of support,” wrote Kobbie.

It remains to be seen whether United will now need to go into the market to find cover for Mainoo who was certainly part of Ten Hag’s first team squad.

Sofyan Amrabat has been hotly linked with a move to Old Trafford, a move which now may be more of a necessity than a nice-to-have given Mainoo’s absence.

All United fans will wish Kobbie a speedy recovery and hope to see him continue his acceleration into the first team at Old Trafford as soon as possible.

“Here we go”: Romano confirms former United star set for Boca Juniors switch

The summer transfer window is now in full swing, with teams around the globe fine-tuning their squads for the upcoming campaign.

Manchester United have been active in the market, bringing in Mason Mount and goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Former United stars are also seeking out pastures new and Edinson Cavani is one of those joining a new club.

As reported by transfer-guru Fabrizio Romano, Cavani has agreed to join Boca Juniors until December 2024 after leaving Valencia on a free transfer at the end of last season.

The Uruguayan looks to be making his way back to South America after a fantastic stint in Europe which spanned 15 years.

Cavani joined United after goal-laden spells at Palermo, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain saw him become one of the most feared front men in the world.

The 36-year-old became somewhat of a fan favourite during his time in Manchester with his lethal finishing and high-energy style earning him a place in United fans’ hearts.

Cavani knocked in 17 goals in his first season at Old Trafford, including one in the Europa League final defeat to Villarreal.

His second season was disrupted by injury and the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, which saw Cavani play second fiddle to the Portuguese superstar, leading him to add just two more goals to his United tally.

Cavani eventually left the club at the end of his contract and joined Valencia, where he scored seven goals in what was a difficult season for the Spanish side.

His move to Boca may see him link up with a current United youngster with Facundo Pellistri, who is subject of loan interest from the Argentine club.

Should Pellistri secure his loan move to South America he will learn a lot from Cavani, whose experience and know-how should be invaluable to young players.

United fans across the world will no doubt wish Cavani all the best in what is now the twilight of his career and thank him for his efforts when wearing the red shirt.

United reject £20m offer for Harry Maguire from PL rivals - David Ornstein

Manchester United have turned down an opening bid worth £20m from West Ham for former skipper Harry Maguire.

Maguire is among a number of players Erik ten Hag is understood to be willing to sell should a suitable offer arrive, but it seems West Ham’s proposal was not up to the level required.

The Athletic‘s David Ornstein reveals that the Red Devils turned David Moyes’s side away and it remains unclear whether a second bid is incoming.

As per Ornstein, “West Ham manager David Moyes wants Maguire but it is doubtful they will keep pushing given the size of his salary and also unclear if the England centre-back would be keen to make the move.”

“His salary could also be problematic for the Europa Conference League winners, making it doubtful they will bid again.”

The London outfit are looking for reinforcements and have money to spend following their sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal for a record £100 million plus £5m transfer sum.

Earlier this month, a report covered by The Peoples Person indicated that Moyes was rapidly losing interest in Maguire who did not display any desire to leave Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s arrival at the club last summer saw the England international fall down the pecking order.

Ten Hag demonstrated a clear preference for a centre-back partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

In some instances, Luke Shaw who is naturally a left-back by trade was preferred at the heart of defence ahead of Maguire.

For supporters, the final nail in the coffin was the former Leicester City man being stripped of the armband with Bruno Fernandes named as his successor.

Maguire is not the only United star West Ham are keen on. Scott McTominay is also on their radar.

It was previously relayed that the Reds want “big bids” to part with Maguire and McTominay who is valued at a ridiculous £45 million.

Fabrizio Romano: Man United submit improved bid for Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United have submitted an improved bid to Atalanta for the transfer of Rasmus Hojlund, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Danish striker is top of United’s wish list as they scour the world’s elite for a top striker.

Negotiations have been ongoing for some time, with United initially hoping for a deal somewhere around the €35-€40 million mark for the unproven 20 year old, with Atalanta holding out for €70 million.

The transfer guru has tweeted that “Manchester United improved their bid to Atalanta during direct talks today — it will be more than €60m package.

“Understand negotiations are still on — Man United want to close the deal ASAP to focus on other positions right after.

“Højlund, very clear. He wants United.!”

The deal now comes down to a “who blinks first” scenario.

The Bergamo side have not yet budged at all in negotiations, but have already committed to signing Hojlund’s replacement, leaving them with little option other than to sell.

United, on the other hand, are clearly desperate to land the young star and will not want to have to change horses at this stage of the race.

However, if Romano is to be believed, at over €60 million they may feel they are already paying way over the odds for a player with just nine Serie A goals to his name.

Both clubs want the matter resolved quickly.

Depending on how much over €60m the new bid is and the breakdown between fixed fee and add-ons, the two clubs might be very close to a deal, which fans will be hoping could be concluded over the weekend.

United preparing crucial bid that should clinch top summer transfer - report

Reports emanating from Italy are indicating that Manchester United remain in the lead in the race to sign Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund, with a decisive bid said to be imminent.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, United’s official bid is expected by Saturday.

The Dane is one of several strikers United have looked at this summer and he now appears most likely to make the move.

One potential complication is the sudden entry of Paris Saint-Germain into the race. As The Peoples Person have previously reported, PSG have also made a €50m bid for the player.

United won’t be too worried, however, as Hojlund reportedly has his heart set on Old Trafford.

He has already agreed on terms with Erik ten Hag’s side, leaving it up to the clubs to agree on a transfer fee.

On their part, the Italian club are holding out for a fee in the region of €70m.

But, perhaps owing to a sense of confidence in getting their man, United have not shown any urgency in making a concrete offer so far.

Additionally, it is understood that the Reds, who are currently working with a limited budget, had also sought to explore the possibility of a cash-plus-player deal.

Now, with PSG sniffing around, United are no longer playing coy.

As Rudy Galetti reports, United are preparing an offer that will come close to matching Atalanta’s expectations. As reported, the new proposal will include a €55million fixed fee plus €10million in add-ons.

Meanwhile, PSG are said to regard Atalanta’s €70m valuation of the player as unrealistic and are prepared to walk away.

United’s latest offer is also thought to be the Reds’ final offer, implying that the race should be nearing its end.

With Atalanta having sealed a move for El Bilal Toure, the gears are already in motion for an imminent conclusion.

Ryan Reynolds "personally intervened" in row between Wrexham and Manchester United - Report

It’s not every day you receive a personal message of support from an A-list Hollywood star.

But that’s exactly what Nathan Bishop experienced as Ryan Reynolds chose to intervene in the row between Manchester United and Wrexham, following the two sides’ pre-season friendly in San Diego.

Wrexham won the match 3-1 against a United side entirely comprised of reserve team and youth players. And Jonny Evans.

Ten Hag lamented the performance by his players, who were subject to a level of physicality and intensity they struggled to acclimate to. “This is men’s football,” their manager succinctly remarked.

The Snapdragon stadium was sold-out with a raucous crowd of 34,248 in attendance. Ten Hag believes this experience will help the younger players to learn how to “deal with the pressure of the crowd”; a prerequisite to be able to perform successfully at United.

One particular moment in the first half, however, caused concern for every person in the stadium, whether their allegiance was to United or Wrexham.

Nathan Bishop, United’s goalkeeper, collided with Paul Mullin, Wrexham’s heroic goalscorer last season, in an awful late challenge. The forward would crumple to the ground with medical staff quickly taking to the field.

Mullin was able to slowly walk off the pitch but required an oxygen mask to do so. He would later be diagnosed with a punctured lung and will miss the start of Wrexham’s entrance back into the English football league next season.

His manager, Phil Parkinson, was furious.

In the aftermath of the match, when asked about the incident, he described Bishop’s challenge as “reckless” and, somewhat unprofessionally, warned the goalkeeper to “steer clear” of Wrexham.

United staff were reportedly “unhappy” with these comments, believing them to have exacerbated the situation and potentially opened Bishop up to online abuse.

The goalkeeper appeared “visibly shaken” as he left the pitch at half-time, but was immediate in tweeting a public apology to Mullin following the game. Bishop would also reach out personally to the injured forward, via other Wrexham players, to reiterate this message.

Ryan Reynolds, co-owner of Wrexham, praised the manner in which Bishop handled the aftermath of the incident. Acting as a  “peacekeeper”, Reynolds personally contacted Bishop to acknowledge his post-match actions and “wished him luck for the future.”

Parkinson’s comments, though inflammatory, are understandable in the heat of the moment; watching your talismanic forward struggle to breathe will affect any manager. United’s response is one of a club defending one of their own, despite the unfortunate repercussions of their player’s challenge.

Reynolds’ words will have helped to quell any lingering feelings of animosity between the clubs, and been a comforting experience for an evidently remorseful Bishop. A classy move.

Saudi side plan shocking swoop for Man United target after Mbappe rejection- report

Saudi Arabia have become serious players in the transfer market this summer and it was recently stamped with their remarkable attempt at securing Kylian Mbappe.

Saudi side Al-Hilal offered €1 billion for just a year of Mbappe and after the Frenchman turned them down, they’ve turned their attention to a player in a move that could affect United’s long-term transfer plans.

Corriere dello Sports reports Al-Hilal are set to test Napoli’s resolve by bidding for star forward Victor Osimhen, a long-term target of United before the asking price forced them to pivot to Rasmus Hojlund.

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis reportedly slapped a price tag of close to €180 million on the reigning Capocannoniere winner, a figure which deterred any potential suitor, including Paris Saint-Germain.

However, for Al-Hilal, this will be merely a drop in the ocean, if the financial terms for their Mbappe offer are any indication.

In such a scenario, De Laurentiis, a shrewd businessman, is unlikely to stand in Osimhen’s way.

The decision then, like in Mbappe’s case, will be up to the player.

Osimhen has previously stated how highly he rates Napoli after winning a historic Serie A title with the team last season.

It is why even United didn’t pursue the deal any further, pivoting instead to more realistic transfer targets.

The pull of Saudi Arabia has been a major factor in this transfer window, with United also benefitting from it, selling Alex Telles to Al-Nassr with further interest in Eric Bailly reported.

However, if the Gulf country manages to secure a superstar like Osimhen at his peak, it is sure to be a transformative moment for European football.

The Nigerian is reportedly in talks to sign a new contract at Naples with a release clause inserted, which could bring United into play next summer.

However, if Al-Hilal’s overtures become too strong to ignore, then United’s long-term transfer plans might shift as not only will Osimhen be off the market, but clubs will also launch into action to protect their own talents from being poached by Saudi’s formidable financial might.

From Turkey: Galatasaray having trouble with United's steep valuation of in-demand star

Manchester United have already strengthened their midfield through the addition of Mason Mount and more changes are afoot.

Manager Erik ten Hag does not want a repeat of the situation that transpired following Casemiro’s multiple suspensions where he saw his side struggle without the Brazilian enforcer.

Another defensive midfielder is a priority and most reports in Italy are suggesting that a deal for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is very close to completion.

Fred on his way out

The club are also finalising the departure of Fred with Galatasaray keen to get the deal done. It was reported last night that Galatasaray deputy chairman Erden Timur had travelled to England to try and close the deal for the Brazilian.

The major stumbling block has been the fee. The Peoples Person had reported that Fulham were interested in the 30-year-old with United asking for £20million.

The Turkish champions have been trying to lowball United for a while now. Reportedly, they initially came up with a €6million offer before raising it to €8million.

United had deemed both of them to be insufficient and rebuffed those approaches with Galatasaray management apparently terming United’s valuation as annoying.

Mixed reports are emerging from Turkey with regards to how the Yellow-Red will get the deal done with two forms of payment coming to light.

As per Fotomac, Galatasaray will place an initial loan offer with an option to buy with Timur “expected to complete the transfer in a few days.”

According to NTV Spor, Gala are expected to lower the initial fee by placing achievable add-ons that will take the price to a satisfactory compromise.

“However, Manchester United ‘s expectation is above 15 million Euros. The yellow-reds are trying to reduce this figure with an offer that includes bonuses.”

How Gala plan to finance Fred deal

With Fulham and Saudi Arabian clubs also in the race, United should try and get the best possible deal out of a buying club considering the season Fred enjoyed under Ten Hag last term.

The Brazil international scored 6 goals and provided as many assists in 56 games across all competitions, his best-ever goal return in a single season.

The only thing holding back United from asking more for a player they paid £52 million for back in 2018 is the fact that Fred’s current deal only has one year left to run.

He is currently in England having not travelled with the rest of the squad to America for pre-season due to personal reasons.
