“They are discussing…“: Romano issues £60m Chelsea transfer statement with deal “almost ready”

Chelsea are edging ever closer to their big-money coup of RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku.

What’s the word?

That is according to esteemed transfer guru Fabrizio Romano who understands that Chelsea have taken their time to build a strong rapport with Bundesliga side Leipzig.

The journalist believes Chelsea are edging ever closer towards reaching a full agreement ahead of the winter transfer window.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano said:

“Chelsea have a very good relationship with Leipzig, so they negotiated over a potential fee because Chelsea are not triggering the clause.

“They are discussing a fee with Leipzig worth around £60million, with different kinds of payment terms. Negotiations are progressing very well and the deal is almost ready.”

The signing of Nkunku will serve as a statement from both Chelsea and co-owner Todd Boehly, who has by no means lacked ambition since taking over at the Chelsea helm.

Amidst Romano’s latest statement, Chelsea’s consistent communication with Leipzig over a move for the France international has seemingly paved way for a positive relationship between the two clubs.

Taking their time over the acquisition of the £60million star could work wonders in their attempts to lure another Leipzig gem in Josko Gvardiol to Stamford Bridge.

The Red Bull strategy of course hones in on the money-ball approach of buying cheap and selling high, so Chelsea will understand that the side will ultimately be willing to part with their prized assets at some point.

With Nkunku’s latest injury setback, which has kept him out of France’s World Cup squad, you would expect a move to take place in the summer.

Though, it has to be said, Chelsea will already be sold on acquiring his services, with the star enduring a stellar start to the season in Germany, having scored 12 goals in 15 games.

It’s now just a case of when, rather than if.
