The pressure is growing on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, despite a tricky opening to the season. A somewhat unexpected loss to Brentford, followed by an inferior looking performance to European champions Chelsea has got fans calling for the Spaniard’s exit.
According to a report in the Telegraph, it’s revealed that Arteta is now facing ‘five games’ to save his job as Gunners boss, a run of games that includes fixtures against Manchester City and Tottenham.
The timing, if true, is interesting as this would coincide with an international break, leaving Arsenal with time to make a change and potentially bring in a replacement.
Arsenal next travel to an in-form West Brom in the League Cup, in-front of a full-house at the Hawthorns, in what is now looking like a banana-skin matchup. The Baggies sit second in the Championship, unbeaten after four games.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Arteta rallied fans to stick behind his young side and the transition continues after a busy transfer window;
“We all want to make it as quick as possible and we know that the responsibility for us is to fight with the top teams in every competition and that’s not going to change, and I think we really need them and this group of players really needs them and the club needs them now next to us because we need that confidence, that support and that energy.”
