Not Pogba: Five senior squad members set to leave United in January

Up to five Manchester United stars could be leaving the club in January, three on loan and two on permanent deals.

First, according to The MEN, Dean Henderson has spoken to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about the amount of playing time he has been given and he is open to another loan move if things don’t improve.

The outlet says that ‘Solskjaer promised Henderson starts in both ties against Basaksehir but reneged on that pledge after United lost the away leg in shambolic fashion.
‘Henderson is believed to have stressed his experience to Solskjaer, having started in 36 Premier League games for Sheffield United last term after a full season with The Blades in the Championship.
‘Henderson has started four times for United this season and is understood to be open to a loan move in the January transfer window if he is not given a run in the side ahead of David de Gea.’

Another first team squad member who is not getting the game time allegedly promised to him by Solskjaer is Brandon Williams. The Athletic’s David Ornstein wrote on November 22nd, ‘Southampton are one of several clubs paying close attention to Brandon Williams’ situation.
‘The defender was open to a loan move to St Mary’s in the summer transfer window to get regular games but that deal was blocked by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who assured Williams that he was part of his plans for the season.
‘However, the 20-year-old is yet to feature in the Premier League this campaign.’
Since the article was written, Williams has made three substitute appearances but is still yet to start any game outside of the Carabao Cup.

The third first team squad member considering a loan is Jesse Lingard, according to Sky Sports.
Lingard has also only started two Carabao Cup games and has not played a single minute in either the Premier League or Champions League.
Sky claim that Spanish side Real Sociedad, who are currently second in La Liga, are speaking to Lingard’s representatives about a possible move in January.

In terms of permanent moves in January, Fenerbahce are reportedly considering a move for Marcos Rojo. United are asking for €5 million (£4.5m) but the Turkish side are hoping to lower the price.
For United, even a free transfer would be preferable to Sheffield United’s reported loan offer, in which United would have to subsidise part of his £80,000 per week wages before his contract expires in June.
And finally, Sergio Romero’s asking price has been slashed to just £2.5 million according to The Mirror, although there are few if any remaining Premier League options and Romero may too have to move abroad to secure regular first team football.
