Manchester United star Luke Shaw was many fans’ man of the match vs Manchester City and the statistics back that general feeling.
The English defender started the clash vs Pep Guardiola’s men and some were surprised the more attacking Alex Telles was left out of the line-up.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decision to go with Shaw, who is a naturally better defender, ended up proving to be the right call.
The former Southampton meant dealt with whatever threat City threw his way and tamed Riyad Mahrez so well that Guardiola brought on Ferran Torres instead.
Shaw will have to keep up these types of performances and stay injury-free in order to keep Telles out of the starting XI as much as possible.

90 minutes played
83% pass accuracy

6/8 ground duels won
2/3 crosses
2/2 dribbles

Shaw has had an unfortunate tendency to pick up a knock just when he’s hitting peak form so the hope is he can remain fit this time around.
There’s an argument to be made that the solid left-back needs regular minutes to find form but then that means he quickly becomes overplayed and subsequently picks up a knock.
It’s a vicious cycle that led Solskjaer to buy Telles this summer and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the faith in Shaw become lost if it keeps up.
Edinson Cavani has made quite an impact since his deadline day arrival at Old Trafford, but how much do you know about our other South American players, past and present? Take our quiz below to find out!
