Manchester United have reportedly shortlisted three defenders in their attempts to reinforce a weak part of their squad.
Fans have long felt there’s a serious need for investment despite Harry Maguire signing in 2019, with some not even convinced by him until now.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer purchased the towering Englishman for a world-record fee for a centre-back but questions still remain over his ability.
United have struggled to keep clean-sheets of late and whether that’s down to the goalkeeping or defending or both is debatable.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are looking to make a centre-back signing in 2021 and have identified Ben White, Dayot Upamecano and Raphael Varane as their options.
What makes it strange is that as much as the Brighton star has recieved praise, he’s perhaps no better than Solskjaer’s current options.
Manchester United have always loved Varane but to invest in him now seems stranger than ever given his obvious injury problems and how out of form he looks.
Upamecano is probably the only real option fans will be pleased with but if he was a target then Solskjaer could’ve purchased him last summer with little to no competition in comparison to next summer when his relatively cheap release clause kicks in and everyone will fight for his signature.
Edinson Cavani has made quite an impact since his deadline day arrival at Old Trafford, but how much do you know about our other South American players, past and present? Take our quiz below to find out!
