As Manchester United head for tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Southampton, there are three decisions that fans on social media are keen to see manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer make.
For better or for worse, Solskjaer has proven himself to have his own mind when making team selections, which often include players that the majority of fans would not select.
The first is the Maguire/Lindelof centre-back partnership. Fans are unconvinced by the pairing and would prefer Axel Tuanzebe or, if fit, Eric Bailly to get the nod, especially at a time when Lindelof is struggling with an ongoing back problem and Maguire is struggling for form.

The second issue on many fans’ minds is that new signing Donny van de Beek should be in the starting XI. They got their wish on Tuesday for the Champions League match against Istanbul Basaksehir and were rewarded with an excellent all-round performance. But Solskjaer has yet to start the Dutchman in a single Premier League game this season.

The final popular vote is that Mason Greenwood should be in the starting XI. Solskjaer has used the 19-year-old sparingly this season amidst vague tales of illness and rumours of disciplinary issues. But many fans believe the kid gloves need to come off so that the side’s most natural goalscorer can do what he does best.

For fans, some of these decisions seem obvious, but managers work with the players day in, day out and know them at a personal level. Usually this means that the boss is probably much more informed than the fans when going in a different direction, although it can sometimes also mean that their personal relationships with different players cloud their judgement as to their abilities.
