Freddie Ljungberg opened up on his departure from Arsenal this past summer and revealed his ambitions for the future, away from the Emirates.
The iconic Swedish midfielder graced the Arsenal line up during the heady title winning years at the club and stepped in for a spell as caretaker boss following the departure of Unai Emery.
Yet despite staying on in a coaching role under the leadership of Mikel Arteta, Ljungberg revealed that although it would have been easy to stay, the lure of the dugout was just too much – management calls;
“I felt I’m ready to manage myself, and to be able to do that, I feel like I had to leave to stand on my own two feet,” the Swede revealed in quotes via Football.London.
“It wasn’t an easy decision, but I think it’s the right thing to do for my career.”
“I want to be a manager. I’m trying to do all of the work and learning from other managers and then to do it myself.”
In total, during his spell in-charge of the Gunners following Emery’s departure, Ljungberg oversaw one win, three draws and two losses. He left the club permanently back in August 2020.
