Chelsea are expected to wrap up a deal for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy within the next couple of days, according to a report in The Athletic.
The Blues are growing increasingly confident of bringing the 28-year-old to Stamford Bridge, despite having reportedly seen a £14 million bid already rejected by Rennes.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has struggled to live up to expectations since arriving in West London in 2018, and Mendy is expected to provide stiff competition for the Spanish shot-stopper next season.
At 6’6, Mendy has a clear height advantage over Kepa, and with Frank Lampard struggling to set his side up to defend from set-pieces last season, the French keeper’ provides an obvious solution.
Petr Cech, who played for Rennes between 2002 and 2004, is believed to have played a critical role in negotiations thus far. This being said, however, Cech has also reaffirmed his belief that Kepa still has a future at the club, despite him boasting the lowest save percentage of any Premier League goalkeeper during the 2019/20 campaign.
Chelsea have been linked with several different goalkeeping options this summer, but with the club seemingly unable to offload Kepa, Mendy is apparently seen as the most attractive prospect.
