More everything: Statistic shows how Man United's midfield has been stunningly transformed

Manchester United’s convincing win over Brighton & Hove Albion saw Paul Pogba’s first assist to Bruno Fernandes in what is quickly becoming a blossoming partnership.

The two haven’t played literally alongside each other just yet with the latter playing in a more advanced position than the former.

Nonetheless, Pogba was impressive vs Brighton as evidenced by how quickly United’s performance diminished once he left the field.

Bruno did grab a brace but it could be argued the talented Frenchman controlled the game more, dictating the tempo for his more advanced teammates.

Either way, fans were excited to see the midfield duo play together and the statistic below shows just why they were right to be.

It’s clear, at least so far, that this is a winning formula and one that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should look to hold onto no matter what.

Rumours of Pogba’s unhappiness and desire to leave have significantly died down but until he extends his current contract, there’s no real security in his future.

It does feel that even though the former Juventus man is happy, he’s now waiting to see how United end their season before committing.

After all, if they fail to qualify for the Champions League then it can leave Pogba with a difficult decision to make.

Rash is back! As United prepare to restart their season and do battle on three fronts, top scorer Marcus Rashford is fit and back to take his place in the side. But how much do you know about the United star? Take our quiz below to test yourself.

The stunning statistic that suggests Man United are top-four bound

Manchester United appear to be on their way to a brilliant end to the season after their convincing 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

As exciting as it was to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men attack in free and full flowing action, it’s important to note the defence kept a solid clean-sheet against a side that beat Arsenal twice, Tottenham once and drew with Chelsea.

United seem to be going from strength to strength and their unbeaten run is well documented for all to see.

However, Solskjaer’s men aren’t on fire simply because their attack have suddenly learnt how to score goals but it arguably has more to do with their defenders finally learning how to keep teams out.

Three points are all that matter during this point of the season but the Red Devils managed to turn on the style too, leaving fans thoroughly satisfied.

Given Manchester United’s relatively easy run-in on paper, they could very much end the season and manage to maintain that consistency in defending.

Despite the obvious improvement, there are still those who call on Solskjaer to sign upgrades on Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw while reports continue to claim that a search for a centre-back is on.

Rash is back! As United prepare to restart their season and do battle on three fronts, top scorer Marcus Rashford is fit and back to take his place in the side. But how much do you know about the United star? Take our quiz below to test yourself.

Not Bruno or Greenwood: Evra names his MOTM for Brighton win

Manchester United great Patrice Evra has named a surprise candidate for the man of the match award in the brilliant win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men hammered their opponents 3-0 with Bruno Fernandes grabbing a brace and Mason Greenwood getting on the scoresheet as well.

Evra has been working as a pundit of late, allowing him to make interesting comments regularly about United.

He even butted heads with Roy Keane after the draw vs Tottenham Hotspurs in the first match following the restart of the league.

Evra didn’t go with the headline performer for his man of the match, instead choosing Nemanja Matic whose performance maybe went a little under the radar.

Matic has been brilliant since the resumption of football and continued that form in the win over Brighton.

The experienced Serbian has made a really strong case to be the man who partners Paul Pogba and Bruno in midfield and it will take some doing for Fred or Scott McTominay to overtake him.

Although he was fantastic in several departments, his most eye-catching skill of the night was his sensational pass through to Mason Greenwood for Bruno’s second goal vs Brighton.

Had it not been for Matic’s vision and delivery, United wouldn’t have scored arguably their best counter-attacking goal of the season.

Rash is back! As United prepare to restart their season and do battle on three fronts, top scorer Marcus Rashford is fit and back to take his place in the side. But how much do you know about the United star? Take our quiz below to test yourself.

The ridiculous stats that show how Bruno's transformed Man United

Manchester United’s impressive 3-0 win at Brighton was their 15th in a row without defeat, and 11th clean sheet in that time.

Man of the match Bruno Fernandes has undoubtedly been the catalyst. The Red Devils have won five and drawn three of their eight Premier League games since the Portuguese general joined the club.

In that time, Fernandes has been directly involved in more goals than any other player in the competition – eight – and is also the joint second top scorer in the league in that period, with five goals.

Anthony Martial has benefitted from his creativity and is the Premier League’s top scorer in the same period.

Fernandes’ ability to dominate in the Portuguese league was never in doubt. He scored 16 goals and registered 20 assists for Sporting Lisbon in 2017-18 and scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists last term.

But the 25-year-old has walked into the world’s toughest league and picked up where he left off. His tally for the two leagues combined this term is 21 goals and 18 assists, but he looks like he could have another 10 in him at least.

All this from a player who cost just £50 million.

Today’s performance was particularly impressive because there were doubts he would even be picked in the starting eleven, having played 120 minutes of a gruelling FA Cup tie just three days ago, and 300 minutes of football overall in the past ten days.

Fernandes is simply world class and the Portuguese international playing alongside Paul Pogba for a full season is one of the most exciting prospects Manchester United fans have had to look forward to for many, many years.

Rash is back! As United restart their season and do battle on three fronts, top scorer Marcus Rashford is fit and back to take his place in the side. But how much do you know about the United star? Take our quiz below to test yourself.

Greenwood outperforming Man United legend after Brighton show

Manchester United have a real gem on their hands with Mason Greenwood as evidenced by his superb performance vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

The superb youngster has seemingly matured tenfold since fans last saw him before the restart of the league.

Greenwood has seemingly made the right-wing position his own, fighting off competition from Daniel James and Juan Mata since football’s resumption.

It was always bound to happen but perhaps no one saw it happening quite so fast, after all, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was trying to reign him in a bit.

His goal and an assist vs Brighton was more evidence he’s ready to take the league by storm and the statistics back this up.

Wayne Rooney is a remarkable footballer to be compared to and he was well known for just how fantastically he broke onto the scene.

Greenwood seems to be doing the same and there’s even an argument to be made that he’s doing it better.

Rooney managed the nine goals for Everton in 34 league games of which he started 26 of them while the academy graduate has scored his six in 25 appearances of which only six of them were starts.

Hopefully, Greenwood can continue to develop at his fantastic rate and he doesn’t become yet another talent destroyed by injury or the pressures of modern football.

Rash is back! As United prepare to restart their season and do battle on three fronts, top scorer Marcus Rashford is fit and back to take his place in the side. But how much do you know about the United star? Take our quiz below to test yourself.

From Ole's boys to Ole's men: Man United hammer Brighton 3-0

Here are our player ratings for today’s Premier League game against Brighton.

(A score of 6 is around average.)

David de Gea 8 – Had very little to do until the 68th minute, when he pulled out a brilliant save. Followed up with another cracker – a performance that will give him some much needed confidence.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 8 – Looking stronger going forward with every game. Really is becoming the complete full back.

Victor Lindelof 7 – A competent performance at the back.

Harry Maguire 7 – Another competent performance. Brighton were poor but that was in part due to one of this centre back partnership’s most quietly efficient performances to date.

Luke Shaw 6 – There’s nothing wrong with Shaw but you just want to see more, even if it’s just now and again. Solskjaer seems to have settled on him over Williams for the rest of the season but you take a step down in terms of passion when he gets the nod.

Nemanja Matic 7 – Was caught out a couple of times in the first half but another good performance overall.

Paul Pogba 8 – Pulled the strings like a puppet master.

Bruno Fernandes 9 – Looked understandably tired today but still managed two goals and a man of the match performance. Just an amazing footballer and you still tend to think he will get even better.

Mason Greenwood 9 – Not just the goal – which was classic Greenwood – and the assist – but his overall performance was fantastic. Winning back the ball immediately having lost it in the first half, like he was channeling Sir Alex.

Marcus Rashford 8 – Much better from Sir Marcus. A really energetic and creative performance that brought him closer to his best – but still not quite there.

Anthony Martial 7 – Had little service but led the line well enough. Just a quiet game overall.

Substitutes

Brandon Williams 7 – Did well again and continues to knock on the door for that starting left back slot.

Scott McTominay 6 – Did not make much impact on the game.

Andreas Pereira 6 – Did little wrong, but little to impress.

Dan Jamesa 5 – Had a brilliant chance to make his mark, but fluffed his lines.

Odion Ighalo 6 – Did fine but didn’t get many chances.

Man United fans react to Bruno Fernandes' incredible performance vs Brighton

Manchester United fans were treated to the Bruno Fernandes show in their brilliant win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Most of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men played well but the Portuguese magician’s two well-taken goals meant he stole the headlines.

Bruno has been absolutely scintillating since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon and seemingly can’t put a foot wrong.

He gained some whispers of criticism after the scrappy 2-1 extra-time win over Norwich City in the FA Cup and responded brilliantly.

Given how Bruno has played the majority of the minutes available since the restart, it made his two goals even more impressive.

Bruno’s got quite a high work-rate and engine on him so the concern is when he will tire and how to manage United without him.

The former Sporting Lisbon man was substituted in a bid to give him some time off but it’s likely he’ll need to be removed from the starting XI entirely eventually.

Hopefully, he can get his rest when he’s not as desperately needed by Manchester United and in an ideal world a back-up player would step up to fill the void a little.

Either way, United fans will enjoy the Bruno show for as long as it goes on, and on current form, it doesn’t seem like it will end.

'Cuddly' Solskjaer must be brutal against Brighton if he wants Champions League football

Manchester United head to Brighton this evening needing three points to maintain their run in search of a Champions League place.

The Red Devils are expected to field a similar side to the one that cruised past Sheffield United 3-0 last Wednesday, but one position that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems unsure about is the right wing.

Mason Greenwood was given a rare Premier League start there against the Blades and whilst he acquitted himself well, Solskjaer’s tendency to play him sparingly this season may mean that Daniel James is recalled for this crucial game.

On paper it should be a game for which James’ blistering pace is suited – Brighton are much more adventurous under Graham Potter than they were under Chris Hughton, although they still put a lot of men behind the ball when out of possession. Quick counter-attacking is vital against that kind of system. But can we trust James to deliver?

The fact is that after a fantastic start to his United career, the Welshman has lost confidence and his performances have been poor. The pace is still there, but the ability to cross, pass and desire to take on his defender are not, at least right now. Commendably, Solskjaer wants to give the player time and space to find his feet. But can he afford to do that under these circumstances?

On the other hand, you can’t expect Greenwood to be Mr. Predictable on the right wing either. Still only 18 years of age and playing out of position, he has to his credit scored 12 goals this season. But at times on Wednesday he looked easy to mark and struggled to make the kind of instinctive runs as a winger that he does so effortlessly when playing as a striker.

It makes sense nonetheless to promote the Englishman ahead of the Welshman at this stage. He is learning on the job and is confident. The question is whether Solskjaer’s faith in James will see him continue to rotate them.

That faith the manager has in players who are underperforming is arguably one of his biggest weaknesses. Sticking by David de Gea during a poor run of form at the end of last season was in part responsible for United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League. His faith in the likes of Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira this season has been baffling and resulted in some dire team performances. This is not the time to be the cuddly manager who strokes players’ egos and helps them to develop. This is crunch time.

There are few other options beside the two youngsters. Marcus Rashford could be switched to the right to give James a chance on his preferred left wing. With Rashford on the right, in theory Anthony Martial could be moved back out to the left and Odion Ighalo – or Greenwood – given a start through the middle. But moving the Frenchman away from the striker role right now would be counter-productive.

So it surely has to be Greenwood, but if it isn’t and Dan James’ name is on the teamsheet this evening, it should at least be the perfect opportunity to ‘grow a pair’ and finally reward the manager’s faith in him.

Chelsea officially offer a contract to forward from Premier League rivals

Chelsea have offered a contract to Manchester United teenager Angel Gomes, according to report from The Independent.

The 19-year-old will leave Old Trafford on a free transfer on Wednesday after rejecting United’s contract extension and he will officially become a free agent.

As per a report in The Athletic, United offered Gomes a decent financial package in a bid to keep him at the club but the player wanted to join a club where he would get more playing time and he’s decided to make a move.

Read Chelsea Verdict

Frank Lampard is in the midst of a rebuild at Chelsea and he has been keen to give young players opportunities to flourish, and that could entice Gomes to move to Stamford Bridge.

Furthermore, Willian and Pedro look like they’ll be leaving Chelsea, so that could create a pathway to more first-team action too. However, Timo Werner will be joining The Blues this summer and they already have plenty of other attacking options too, so there’d be no guarantees for Gomes to play regularly if he did make a move to Stamford Bridge.

Two strikers on Solskjaer's shortlist as boss confirms he's buying this summer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that the club are looking to sign a striker in the summer.

Anthony Martial has been in excellent form and hit a hat trick in his last start against Sheffield United. He and Marcus Rashford have both notched 19 goals so far – one more each would give the Red Devils their first ‘double 20’ season since 2010-11, when Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez got 22 and 20 goals, respectively.

Odion Ighalo has also scored consistently since joining United on loan from Shanghai Shenhua and 18-year-old Mason Greenwood has scored 12 from the right wing in his breakthrough season.

It is a rosy picture, but one with which Solskjaer is clearly not satisfied as he explained the situation at the pre-match presser for the trip to Brighton today.

‘You need competition for places at Manchester United,’ the manager said.

‘If you think you’ve got a divine right to be playing every game and are doing so well that we’re not going to look for players to replace you, you’re in the wrong place.

‘I’ve been here myself for so many years as a striker and Teddy Sheringham comes in, Dwight Yorke comes in, Ruud van Nistelrooy comes in, Wayne Rooney comes in.

‘We’ve always got to look at improving, and if they don’t improve, we might have to look somewhere else to get better because we have to be better.

‘We’re too far away from where we need to be and want to be.’

The boss threw down the gauntlet to permanent stars Rashford, Martial and Greenwood, saying they can improve.

‘I’ve always had faith in the forwards we have at the club — Mason, Marcus and Anthony. They’re boys who improve on trust, they’re good boys to talk to, discuss and sit with.

‘They know that I trust them, they know I want the best for them, but they also know I’ve got to make decisions for the team and the club,’ he said.

‘They’ve all taken responsibility at different parts of the season and I’m delighted with all of them.

‘For us as a group, it was time to allow our forwards to feel that confidence and feel that demand of playing and being demanded to play every game. That’s how you get to another level.

‘I think all three have had a good development this season, but they can be so much better.

‘All three, I’m still waiting to see them blossom because there are parts of their game that they still need to improve on’.

After losing out in the race to sign Norwegian striker Erling Haaland in January and with Chelsea having snapped up German ace Timo Werner from Red Bull Leipzig, the two most likely names on the striker shopping list are Lyon’s Moussa Dembele and Wolves’ Raul Jimenez.

Due to the difference in age (Dembele is 23 and Jimenez 29) and price tag (reportedly £63 million for Dembele vs. £90 million for Jimenez), Dembele looks the more likely of the two to be heading for Old Trafford in August. Some reports have even suggested that a deal is already in place.

Momentum to overcome fatigue: Man United vs Brighton latest team news

The games are coming thick and fast now and tonight Manchester United head to the south coast to face Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.

The Seagulls are lying clear of the relegation zone and will fancy their chances against a tired United side who have played an extra game this week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reported no fresh injuries ahead of the game, with surprise, surprise Phil Jones and the unlucky Axel Tuanzebe the only absentees. However, there must be concerns over Bruno Fernandes’ ability to play another 90 minutes, having played 300 already in the last ten days.

Here are the predictions of The Peoples Person team going into the game:

Sam Peoples: Brighton 1-3 Manchester United

We’ve had a horrible time away at Brighton in recent years but this is different, well it feels that way to me. I’m fully expecting our momentum from Sheffield to carry into this game, as well as a late winner against Norwich, so we should control this game. Saying that, I’m also expecting Brighton to score a set piece but I back United’s quality and momentum to come through. Here’s hoping I don’t end up with egg on my face with my prediction but let’s see.

Marwan Harraz: Brighton 1-2 Manchester United

Fatigue is naturally starting to become a factor and given how United had to go into extra time to beat Norwich, they’ll likely be huffing and puffing vs Brighton. I expect Ole to go with a full strength side so quality should see us through but Brighton have been impressive since the return to action, beating Arsenal and drawing with Leicester City. Although they’re six points from the drop with seven games to go, they’ll put in a fight.

Red Billy: Brighton 1-1 Manchester United

I’m feeling a little uneasy about this one after the Reds lost momentum in the gruelling FA Cup match at Norwich. One question for me is how will David de Gea perform, as it will be his first proper test since the mistake against Spurs. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t another shaky performance.

Another issue is whether Dan James is recalled on the right wing and if so, whether he can improve on recent performances. With Bruno potentially rested, all the pressure could fall on the Pogba, Martial and Rashford triumvirate to do the business. That becomes a problem because they can be crowded out by a disciplined defence. I hope I am wrong and that it will be a comfortable win for United, but it’s a banana skin and so I’m going to be pessimistic and predict a draw.

'Maybe he has to look elsewhere'- Man United legend lays into star

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has had his say on Jesse Lingard and whether or not the player should still be at the club after the summer.

The versatile Englishman has looked a shadow of himself for quite some time and has quickly become the club’s new scapegoat.

Lingard can’t seem to put a foot right lately and that has resulted in many fans calling for his head.

Yorke seems to agree as he calls for the academy product to perhaps reconsider his future at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tried time and again to rely upon Lingard for performances but so far in his reign, he has been let down.

Manchester United’s recent 2-1 win over Norwich City in the FA Cup was clear evidence of Solskjaer’s inability to rely upon his backup players.

Amongst those were Lingard, and if there’s any of United challenging for titles anytime soon they will need better depth than they’ve currently got.

The problem is, depth is needed almost everywhere and as such Solskjaer may not be able to get rid of Lingard just yet.

First, he has to move on the deadwood such as Alexis Sanchez and Marcos Rojo before he can invest in the positions he would like.

Bundesliga club Wolfsburg’s Dutch striker Wout Weghorst is the target of heightened transfer speculation from the Premier League duo, with the 27-year-old having netted 20 times this season.

Wolfsburg wrapped up the season in seventh, and with the pandemic putting strain on club finances, the German side may be tempted to cash-in this summer with two English clubs circling.

Arsenal still have lingering doubts surrounding the long-term future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and with Mikel Arteta keen to put more of his own stamp on the squad, a move for Weghorst makes sense – yet unspectacular for Gunners fans.

Despite the transfer rumour for the Dutchman seeming to lack ambition, Weghorst has been consistent in the last few seasons, scoring 27 (2017/18), 18 (2018/19) and 20 (2019/20).

Serie A giant considering permanent transfer for out-of-form United winger

Manchester United may finally have the opportunity to offload Alexis Sanchez with Inter Milan reportedly the destination, possibly even permanently.

The experienced Chilean has struggled to make a true impact at Old Trafford since arriving and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the decision to loan him out last summer.

Inter took Sanchez on but are believed to be paying only half his wages with United paying the other half.

The former Arsenal man’s wages are weighing heavy on Solskjaer’s allotted wage budget and is probably impacting his ability to sign other players this summer.

Many expected Sanchez to return once his loan is over given how he hasn’t impressed while in Italy but it seems as though Antonio Conte sees something in him.

It’s certainly a strange deal but one that makes sense when all factors are considered but there are question marks over this report.

After all, Conte is building a brilliant team at Inter so why would he want to sign Sanchez when he knows the player would only be a back-up option.

The only logical explanation is that the formerly devastating winger is willing to take a huge pay-cut to stay in Italy but even then, has he done well enough to be taken on permanently?

The reason why Dortmund HAVE to sell Sancho this summer

Manchester United have been given a pretty significant boost in their race for Jadon Sancho after Borussia Dortmund’s latest announcement.

The sensational Englishman has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer but so far it’s proven to be a complicated transfer.

United have hopes to sign Sancho but are unwilling to meet Dortmund’s high price-tag given the current circumstances of the market.

The German giants don’t want to sell a key player for cheap just because of the financial crash caused by the global health crisis.

The two clubs are clearly at an impasse but Dortmund’s hand may be forced given their latest announcement.

It’s not entirely a massive loss but given how Dortmund would want to at least balance the books then they will need to sell someone.

The reason why it’s likely Sancho is because of the interest from Manchester United who are seen as a rich club.

Another reason is that Dortmund probably want to strengthen their side too and not just break even after losing out to Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title for the eighth time in a row.

There’s also no other major clubs interested in one of their other main stars, or at least enough to spend the same kind of money United would.

4-2-3-1: How Solskjaer and co can blow Brighton out of the water

Manchester United are set to take on Brighton & Hove Albion away from home as they continue their race for a top-four spot.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men dropped to sixth place but have a game in hand after Wolves won in their last fixture.

A win against Brighton is needed in order to get back to being level as well as to put pressure on Chelsea and Leicester City who would be two and three points away respectively.

Solskjaer’s men dropped points against Tottenham and in truth cannot afford to drop anymore given the form of the likes of the Blues and Wolves.

One would expect the legendary Norwegian to blow Brighton out of the water by selecting a full-strength side.

Bruno Fernandes could probably do with a rest but it would make sense to attempt to finish off Brighton early first then substitute him off the field.

Solskjaer tried to trust his back-up options to do the business vs Norwich and was horribly let down.

It’s now obvious he can mostly only rely on his starting XI and so trying to kill teams off as early as possible and then taking advantage of the five allowed substitutions is a better way of rotating.

Eric Bailly put in a good showing and is probably Harry Maguire’s longer-term partner but has to be given time to regain his fitness.

Rash is back! As United prepare to restart their season and do battle on three fronts, top scorer Marcus Rashford is fit and back to take his place in the side. But how much do you know about the United star? Take our quiz below to test yourself.

Failing on and off the pitch: the world is falling apart for Man United star

At half-time in the FA Cup Quarter Final match against Norwich City on Saturday, United Peoples TV pundit Sam Peoples tweeted something that probably every Manchester United fan was thinking:

‘One thing we can all agree on, it’s goodbye Jesse Lingard whenever the transfer window is open.

‘He’s gone, fini, the end. His performance so far and this game as a whole is a horrible reminder of the sort of football we’ve had to get used to watching in recent years.’

The FA Cup tie against the lowly Canaries, almost certainly condemned to finish the season at the foot of the Premier League and coming off the back of two home defeats within a week, was widely seen as another chance for Lingard to recapture the form that has been absent for two years. It was a chance – maybe the last chance – for the 27-year-old to convince manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he has a future at Old Trafford.

To say Lingard didn’t take that chance is putting it mildly. Sure enough, he displayed a lot of energy, running around the pitch like a Yorkshire terrier chasing a frisbee, but there was no product. His substitution in the 63rd minute seemed almost like putting that Yorkshire terrier out of its misery.

‘The midfielder failed to seize his chance against Norwich and his time at Manchester United may be running out,’ said The Guardian’s Jonathan Wilson.

‘If this was an appraisal for a new contract, it’s hard to see how he could possibly have passed – particularly given it was terminated after 63 minutes by his substitution.’

Other journalists were more blunt in their appraisal.

‘Solskjaer can’t trust players like Lingard if he wants to win trophies’ was the brutal conclusion of The Athletic’s Andy Mitten.

‘Lingard, Juan Mata and Diogo Dalot could play in the return leg of their Europa League tie with LASK in August, in which they have a 5-0 advantage, but otherwise, the stakes are too high, their performances this season too mediocre.

‘After the woeful October defeat at Newcastle, where Lingard and Dalot both started, one United coach privately admitted that “the toolbox is hardly overflowing with talent right now”.’

The difference between those other two players and Lingard, however, is that one – Dalot – is young enough at 21 to improve, and the other – Mata – has, at 32, nothing to prove and is likely to segue into a coaching role at Old Trafford.

Lingard, on the other hand, is at the peak age for a footballer’s career – 27. This is not the time for faltering or being distracted. The former England international is just that – former – whilst another star from the same academy year, Paul Pogba, is a World Cup winner and one of the most sought after players on the planet.

Both players have received criticism for their social media activity and off-field business ventures, both have the same agent in Mino Raiola, but there is one huge difference between the two: Pogba has the talent to back up the hype, whereas Lingard, on the evidence of the last two years, hasn’t.

‘Adding his JLingz clothing range logo to a tribute to the Manchester Arena terror attack was so misguided, you wonder who sanctioned it, as was tweeting an advert out for a computer game during the 60th memorial for the Munich air disaster’ Mitten notes.

‘Lingard’s “beans, beans, beans” social media posts from a South Beach hotel last summer was criticised as cringeworthy for a 26-year-old adult, more so because of the timing after a dire end to the season.’

The Sun also weighed in this week, noting that ‘Lingard, 27, even has his own scent, as well as mobile phone cases featuring a graphic of his trademark goal celebration.

‘Early signs suggest that customers aren’t convinced by Lingard’s brand either, with the JLingz fashion line losing £200,000 in its first year,’ says reporter Jon Boon.

‘While the jury’s out on both Lingard’s clothing range and his football career, perhaps the best thing he can do is concentrate on impressing his boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.’

With United facing a tough FA Cup semi-final tie against Chelsea, barring an injury crisis it is hard to see Lingard starting another domestic game for United this season. And as the transfer window will be well and truly open by the time the Europa League resumes, it could even be that the dour performance at Carrow Road proves to be Jesse Lingard’s last ever outing in a Manchester United shirt.

Rash is back! As United restart their season and do battle on three fronts, top scorer Marcus Rashford is fit and back to take his place in the side. But how much do you know about the United star? Take our quiz below to test yourself.

Levante’s North Macedonian international star midfielder Enis Bardhi has admirers at Arsenal it seems, with the report stating that interest has already turned to a formal bid for the 24-year-old.

The attacking midfielder has chipped in with four goals and four assists for the La Liga side this season, as well as being a regular figure in the national team.

Arsenal have bubbling issues around the futures of both Mattéo Guendouzi and Mesut Ozil and midfield could be a key area to strengthen for Mikel Arteta, as the Spaniard looks to put his own stamp on the squad in the transfer window.

Bardhi has proven versatile for Levante since signing in 2017, playing in both central and attacking roles in midfield, as well as operating effectively on the left wing.
