Chelsea need to beat Tottenham to the signing of Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in order to address their goalkeeping situation.
According to the Daily Mail, both Chelsea and Tottenham are keen on signing Ramsdale in the summer following his impressive performances for Bournemouth this season.
The report claims that Chelsea are looking for someone to compete with Kepa next term, with Spurs also trying to find a player to challenge Hugo Lloris.
Given Kepa’s poor form this season, signing Ramsdale could solve a huge problem in Chelsea’s side by increasing the Spaniard’s competition. Kepa, quite frankly, has not been good enough for a £72m signing who became the most expensive goalkeeper in history when he joined the club.
Kepa currently has the worst save percentage in the entire Premier League, out of goalkeepers to play five or more games. This shows how poorly he has performed for Chelsea this season and why Frank Lampard opted to drop him for six games.
His save percentage is 57%, compared to Ramsdale’s far more impressive 71% for Bournemouth this season. This suggests that Ramsdale could be an improvement on the Spaniard, as he is currently performing to a higher level in the same division – for a club much further down the table.
Chelsea signing Ramsdale could improve that area of their squad and either prove to be an upgrade on Kepa or push the former Bilbao man on to up his own game. Healthy competition could help both players to thrive under pressure.
