Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bernd Leno put in impressive performances as the Gunners secured a 3-2 win against Everton.

Team News – Match Reports – Player Ratings
Match: Arsenal v Everton
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (UK Time): 16:30 23/02/2020

Here’s how we rate Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal players:

Mikel Arteta – 8

Mikel Arteta’s game plan was pretty solid for this one. The two Everton goals were a little fortunate and came from defensive issues. The team was set up to thrive against this Toffees side and responded well to going behind.

Bernd Leno – 7.5

It was a game of two halves for the German. Bernd Leno should have done better with the second Everton goal but he produced a string of solid stops to keep his side in the game after the break. He made an excellent sliding intervention late on to keep Richarlison out as well as some great stops to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin. His second-half performance certainly made up for his first.

Hector Bellerin – 5

It wasn’t his best performance. Hector Bellerin really struggled defensively down Arsenal’s right as Everton targeted him down that side. Richarlison ran him ragged at times, constantly drifting out wide. The Spaniard seemed caught in two minds trying to contribute at the other end without ignoring his defensive duties.

Shkodran Mustafi – 5.5

He struggled at times. Shkodran Mustafi was forced out of position and out wide with seemingly every Everton attack. He coped reasonably well for the most part with some good recovery challenges.

David Luiz – 6.5

David Luiz did well, particularly in possession. The Brazilian grabbed a wonderful assist for the second Arsenal goal, playing a beautiful through ball for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Saed Kolasinac – 3

He was only on the pitch for 18 minutes but he was responsible for the first goal and caused himself an injury with a reckless tackle. His decision to stay behind the rest of his defenders for the opening goal was completely baffling.

Sub: Bukayo Saka (18′) – 6

It wasn’t his best performance. Bukayo Saka started extremely well after coming off the bench but he just seemed to tire as the game went on. It’s understandable after playing 90 minutes in midweek but it hurt the Gunners down their left. He looked a little exposed defensively but grabbed a wonderful assist for Arsenal’s opener.

Dani Ceballos – 7

He did well in the middle. Dani Ceballos put in a real battling performance in the centre of Arsenal’s midfield, working hard and being aggressive to win the ball back. He moved the ball well from deep and was unlucky not to do better with his shot shortly before being replaced.

Sub: Lucas Torreira (76′) – 6

He did okay. There were a few sloppy passes but some good tackles from Lucas Torreira.

Granit Xhaka – 6.5

Granit Xhaka looked pretty solid in midfield. He moved the ball around the pitch extremely well and kept his shape defensively.

Mesut Ozil – 6

It was a game of quiet influence for Mesut Ozil. The former Germany international played some excellent passes and moved around the pitch to create openings for his teammates.

Sub: Matteo Guendouzi (82′ ) – 5

Worked hard enough.

Nicolas Pepe – 7

It was a good performance from Nicolas Pepe. The Ivorian was a threat all match long down that right flank. He grabbed a nice assist and almost had a couple more.

Eddie Nketiah – 7.5

Eddie Nketiah did well upfront as he grabbed his first Arsenal goal at the Emirates. The youngster took it well and was unlucky not to get his second when his whipped shot cannoned off the crossbar. But it was Nketiah’s hold-up play that impressed as he took good care of the ball.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 8

It was a solid day for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners captain grabbed two vital goals, the first of which was a fine effort. He worked extremely hard and was a huge threat to the high Everton defensive line.
