Reports in England suggest that Arsenal are set to hand Gabriel Martinelli a new bumper contract at the club (via Daily Mail).
It’s been a disappointing season at Arsenal on the whole but the brightest thing about it all has undoubtedly been the emergence of Gabriel Martinelli.
The young Brazilian was signed to little fanfare but took quickly to the first-team and has starred for the Gunners against Chelsea on Tuesday night.
His 70-yard run for the first equalising goal was a thing of wonder and now, it looks as if the club is set to reward him for his strong start.
Reports in England suggest that Arsenal are set to hand Martinelli a new improved contract that will treble his wages.
The Mail claims that Martinelli’s weekly salary will go from £10,000 to over £30,000 should he agree to the terms.
The 18-year-old has reportedly attracted interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool in recent weeks following his summer arrival from Ituano.
Arsenal have obviously been impressed by the forward who has scored 10 goals in 21 games and it looks like Arsenal are keen on expanding their scouting network in Brazil after Martinelli’s impact.
“The way the market is going, the European clubs are looking not so much for established stars, they’re looking for the likes of Martinelli,” claims the South American football expert Tim Vickery.
“The Arsenal scouting unit are looking for players in Brazil who are by no means household names in their own home at the moment.
“[Martinelli]’s already scored with Arsenal as many senior goals as he scored in Brazil, playing mostly regional football in Sao Paulo.”
It’s good to see reports that Arsenal want to renew Gabriel Martinelli’s contract. It’s the right decision after his incredible start to life in North London. Let’s hope he agrees to the new deal because he’s suddenly become one of the most important players at the club.
