Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Manchester United players that he will lose his job should the club lose to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, according to reports.
The Norwegian has come under severe pressure following a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
Such a result leaves Man United in ninth place, while Solskjaer now has the unwelcome record of managing just five Premier League wins since April 1.
According to the Metro, Solskjaer has informed his players that defeat to Spurs on Wednesday followed by an inevitable drubbing at Man City on Saturday would serve as the death knell to his managerial career at Old Trafford.
Of course, the noises coming out of United at the moment are resolutely behind Solskjaer, with the consensus stating that the idea of sacking Solskjaer is unthinkable at this moment in time.
You suspect that the club’s stance is to wait until the conclusion of this season, at least. But that is very likely to change. At a time when Spurs, Arsenal, Watford and soon Everton are sacking their managers, along with the clamouring for Solskjaer’s dismissal online, United’s hierarchy may – not for the first time – give in to exterior pressure, especially if Mauricio Pochettino really does want the job.
