Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho indirectly handed a boost to former side Manchester United by ruling out a move for Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were said to be keen on signing the sensational Portuguese international during the summer but that never materialised in the end.
Fernandes would’ve added some much needed creativity to United but for one reason or the other, United failed to secure his signature.
Some reports claimed Solskjaer’s side thought he gave away the ball too often but it’s a problem the club’s current midfielders suffer from themselves.
Tottenham were believed to be the Red Devils’ main rivals for Fernandes so by ruling themselves out, it makes things far easier if the interest is genuine.
Jose Mourinho on a potential Bruno Fernandes transfer: "We're a different club at this level. We're not a club that is going to make big transfers in the market, nor are we targeting players who are already developed or at a certain level of expectation, also economically." #mufc pic.twitter.com/of3XzoOUHg

It appears Mourinho knows right away that he won’t be able to spend much at Tottenham and that he will be forced to make the most out of the club’s academy.
That certainly explains his sudden shift in philosophy and it will be interesting to see whether or not he’s capable of pulling it off.
Nonetheless, Fernandes is certainly a player United should be looking to sign as they’re in desperate need of a creative midfielder to link the midfield to the attack.
