It seems Bayer Leverkusen are taking full advantage of their cash-cow Kai Havertz and are holding out for as much money as possible amid Manchester United’s interest.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s need for a creative outlet in the form of a midfielder or two has been obvious and the club have already said they will invest in January if a deal makes sense.
Given Leverkusen’s ridiculous price-tag, it’s likely United will sit this one out as well, unless they feel as though Havertz is too good to pass up on.
No one really expected the club to break the record fee for a defender last summer either so they have shown the potential to do the unexpected.
Perhaps the Red Devils’ woes, until recently, might push Solskjaer to invest in the German wonder-kid with many clubs waiting to pounce as well.
#mufc are very interested in Kai Havertz. Bayern Munich were ready to offer €90m but it would not be enough for Bayer Leverkusen and a lot depends on offers from other clubs #mulive [@cfbayern, sportbild]

It seems here that Manchester United’s name is simply being used to begin a bidding war for a player they may not even be interested in.
With Paul Pogba set to return from injury soon and Solskjaer’s love for Jesse Lingard being so obvious, it could be that no investment in the attacking-midfield position is even made.
Normally Bayern Munich are excellent at poaching talent within the Bundesliga too so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they bagged Havertz as well.
