Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is one of five players on FC Barcelona’s most wanted list as they search for a long-term replacement for striker Luis Suarez, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
Suarez, who will be 33 years old in March, has himself fuelled speculation about a potential swoop, telling Bein Sports ‘Barça are looking for a young number 9 for when I’m not there’. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have drawn up a shortlist of five strikers for that purpose that includes Rashford, 22, and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham, also 22.
Barcelona are known to have been keen admirers of Rashford for some time and considered making a move for the United player in last summer’s transfer window, according to numerous sources. However, the Catalan club instead opted to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid and ultimately did not pursue the Mancunian’s signature.
Rashford is reported to have ‘heavyweight admirers’ in Barcelona’s technical team, who believe he has the technique required to play the close combination game that Barcelona employ. ‘What they like most about Rashford is that he is a player who can be dangerous at the heart of the attack in the box, but can also go out wide and create danger from the wings thanks to his ability to dribble with technique and speed’ claims the Barcelona-based paper.
Other names on the Blaugrana’s wish list are Red Bull Leipzig’s Timo Werner, 23, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, 22 and Red Bull Salzburg’s Erling Braut Haaland, 19, although the same paper claims that the club are not convinced that the latter has the right profile to fit in the side.

Lifelong fan and academy graduate Rashford would not be easy to pry away from the Old Trafford club, having signed a new 4-year contract worth £250,000 per week in July. However, the chance to play alongside the likes of Leonel Messi at the Bernabeu is one that would be tempting for any player in the world should the Catalans come knocking.
