Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed that the club does not expect Jadon Sancho to join Manchester United in the January transfer window.
Sancho is said to have been left feeling unsettled by what he considers to be a scapegoating from his manager Lucien Favre – especially for the 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich, during which he was subbed off before half time.
The 20-year-old is viewed by Man United as a key target ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer determined to sign an attacking player on the right-hand side.
Speaking on the subject of Sancho, Zorc said: “We’ve cleared everything internally in the team and with the player.
“It’s done, we’re looking forward. Jadon is another regular player and he is part of our team. I believe that when he came on against Barcelona, we witnessed a good response and he did a very good job.
“I do not have the impression that he wants to prepare for a January move. We talked to him and his agency. We hope he shows his best possible performance tomorrow.”
Sancho, you suspect, is too big of a player to be sold in January – a time when only minor deals normally happen – and reports suggesting that United could fast-track his purchase this winter only stems from the fact that his manager does not consider him to be fully focused.
A move looks very likely next summer, and it would be fair to assume that this little episode is just the start of a long-winded saga involving Sancho, Dortmund and United, along with the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid, perhaps.
