Solskjaer reveals Man United's transfer strategy for January window

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has risked upsetting fans by cooling down talk over a winter transfer window spending spree despite reports linking the club to multiple players.

The legendary Norwegian has a relatively thin squad that has been riddled with injuries so far this season, making matters even worse and so many expected players to be brought in over the coming months.

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case any longer with Solskjaer keen on cutting out any talk of heavy investment this January.

This means United will, for the most part, attempt to navigate their way through this season with the players already at their disposal- a decision that may come back to haunt them.

After all, the team have been pretty inconsistent so far this campaign and not many would bet on the current crop turning it around themselves without outside inspiration.

According to the Telegraph, Solskjaer said: “It is not about ‘x’ amount of money [we have to spend], it is about who do we think will be good for the club in the long-term, not just three or four months.

“Not many clubs want to sell players that they would otherwise want to keep in January. Maybe one or two could be a loan deal but that is not a big money thing, it is just to help the team. But we are getting players back and we are looking at what can be available for us.”

It’s quite possible the Red Devils will get over their teething problems and build a steam of momentum that will propel them into a top four spot but it doesn’t make sense to bet on such a thing with so much on the line.

Solskjaer and the board should aim to bring in one or two fresh faces and there isn’t a complete lack of options as is being hinted.
