Player ratings: Youngsters impress as United score three again

David de Gea 6 – Left in no-man’s land for Brighton’s equaliser, which came from a corner, and had little else to worry about against a limited attack.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6 – Atoned for his mistake at Bournemouth with a militantly disciplined performance. Did not get forward much but was very tidy.

Harry Maguire 7 – An improved showing compared with his performance against Partizan Belgrade. An imposing figure.

Victor Lindelof 6 – Should have covered the near post better for Brighton’s goal but played a tidy game.

Brandon Williams 7 – Really impressive. The teenager, on his first Premier League start, looked immediately comfortable, getting forward at pace and linking up with attackers. Deserves to be first-choice.

Scott McTominay 6 – Had a strong first half, winning the ball in good places and forcing home United’s second of the game.

Fred 8 – Possibly Fred’s best performance in a United shirt. Looked to be in perfect tune with the game, finding gaps all over the pitch and maintaining pressure on Brighton with some penetrative, positive passing. Very encouraging.

Andreas Pereira 6 – Played an important role in an excellent opening 20 minutes from United, scoring the opener via a big deflection, but dropped off in the second period.

Daniel James 7 – Electric once again, fizzing down that right hand side like an old fashioned winger. Composure in tight spaces was also excellent. Looks to be improving all the time.

Anthony Martial 6 – Was not constantly involved in proceedings but his raw quality was once again there to see, laying on a subtle assist for Pereira. Made some good runs.

Marcus Rashford 7 – After Brighton got a goal back, this guy came alive in remarkable fashion, scoring an excellent clutch goal seconds later, missing a sitter, and then relentlessly hitting Brighton with bursting runs down the left.
