Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand has pinpointed the moment he feels Jose Mourinho’s job began to be put on the line.
The Portuguese tactician recently became employed by Tottenham around a year after losing his seat at Old Trafford with some fans still in the belief that it was the wrong decision.
Mourinho certainly splits supporters’ opinions but there’s no doubt over how negative or toxic the atmosphere became towards the end of his tenure.
It felt almost as though United would have no choice but to fire the former Chelsea boss since both parties were at the point of no return.
Some fans even accused Mourinho of having given up and his disheveled appearance certainly didn’t helps matters.
According to Manchester Evening News, Ferdinand said: “He was miserable and down beat and negative about a lot of situations mainly players.
“Talking about players in public, which I didn’t agree with and wouldn’t have liked as a player. I was always up for my manager being honest with me.
“Negative is fine face to face but in the public domain it’s hard to maintain a positive relationship with a player when that has happened.
“It was the beginning of the end when he started doing that. He was miserable and down beat and negative about a lot of situations mainly players.

Ferdinand isn’t wrong with his comments but in playing the devil’s advocate it could be said that Mourinho didn’t begin that way.
It could be argued the former Real Madrid man was optimistic and positive at the start of his reign and only threw his toys out of the pram when United showed they wouldn’t back him fully.
It could also be argued that he may have decided to criticise publicly only after failing to get a response from his players when criticising privately.
