Ainsley Maitland-Niles is the latest Arsenal figure to praise coach Freddie Ljungberg for his involvement with the first-team (via Arsenal.com).
It’s clear that Freddie Ljungberg is highly thought of at Arsenal, that much became clear earlier in the week with the quotes from former player Cohen Bramall.
The full-back praised Ljungberg for his one-on-one coaching ability and now, another player in a similar position has done the same.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has already bagged two assists this season and has spoken about how Ljungberg’s one-on-one coaching has helped him.
“There’s quite a few things [I have learnt] really,” Maitland-Niles said.
“He knows me as a winger, so attacking-wise he’s helped my game a lot. Defensively, I go to someone else to help me because they’re two different styles that I have to play.
“Him personally, he’s pulled me to the side a lot and has shown me different techniques and ways of beating players, ways of crossing the ball and shooting.
“It’s helping me and I’m happy to have him around because he’s such a big figure in the team.”
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been Arsenal’s first-choice right-back for the past nine months but will face competition from the returning Hector Bellerin in the weeks to come. The Englishman needs to step up his game if he is to remain in the first-team picture at the Emirates. Coaching sessions like this are a great way to do just that and it seems that Freddie Ljungberg is crucial.
