There are some Manchester United players who are beginning to doubt the managerial credentials of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to reports.
The Norwegian, following a remarkable start to his tenure at Old Trafford, has only seen his team win three of their last 13 games.
Indeed, the team’s performance against Southampton saw Solskjaer receive plenty of criticism, with many pointing out how the same tactical problems from last season – namely, breaking teams down when they are sitting back – were still apparent at St Mary’s.
According to the Guardian‘s Jamie Jackson, there is a feeling among the more dubious members of the squad that Solskjaer’s training methods lack a certain element of sophistication.
The 46-year-old’s man-management is relaxed and he is popular on a personal level, but some players – although by no means the majority – harbour reservations about his tactical acumen during critical periods within games.
Some have pointed to his spell at Cardiff City as a potential red flag, while there are supposed doubts that Solskjaer can enact the same collective improvement over a three-year period as engendered by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
These accusations are not new ones and perhaps stem from the need to point the finger in all directions following such a poor run of results from April onwards. How Solskjaer responds will serve as the real indication of where he is as a manager.
