Man United great reveals how to replace uncertain De Gea

Manchester United great Edwin van der Sar has given his opinion on what the club can do should the uncertain David de Gea depart next summer.

The sensational Spaniard’s contract expires next year meaning foreign clubs can begin discussing a free transfer as early as January.

De Gea’s form has dipped since his future has remained unclear so fans have been hoping a new contract would be wrapped up quickly.

Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case and the longer negotiations go on, the less confident supporters are.

There has been plenty of talk over replacements with a recent report claiming the Red Devils were looking into signing Jan Oblak or Jordan Pickford.

According to Metro, Van der Sar said: “The decision needs to come at a certain point.

“It takes a long time now, so it’s a case of “yes” or “no”, but I’m not a director of United.

“Other goalkeepers can also fill the gap. There are a few Premier League goalkeepers playing at the club who can also take the step up.

“I was 34 when I went to United. So there are lots of opportunities there.”

Lee Grant and Sergio Romero are probably the goalkeepers Van der Sar is referring to when he mentions the ones within the club.

The talented Argentine has already proven his worth in the past and so, while not as good, he will certainly be an adequate replacement fans wouldn’t fuss with.

Perhaps Van der Sar was also referring to on loan Dean Henderson who has returned to Premier League side Sheffield United for the season.

The young Englishman is a prospective talent who renewed his deal just this summer so perhaps recalling him and handing him minutes would be a good solution.
