Manchester United fans have been left exasperated by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to start Paul Pogba against Rochdale after it was revealed that the Frenchman is now a doubt for Monday’s meeting with Arsenal.
The midfielder had only just recovered from an ankle injury, making his first start since before the international break, and played 90 minutes against the League One side.
However, Solskjaer confirmed at a press conference on Friday that the 26-year-old’s ankle was swollen after picking up a fresh knock against Rochdale.
In response, a number of United fans have voiced anger at the manager for using Pogba in such a comparatively pointless game.
Why would we play him then?

Horrendous to start Pogba home to Rochdale now he’s a doubt for Arsenal, Ole is getting so many basic football decisions wrong it’s a disgrace

He was playing badly, playing through an injury and the manager still didn’t take him off? I don’t get it https://t.co/2DEw9Uj6DT

Good call rushing him back for Rochdale so

Yet you played him for whole 90min in a meaningless game.

So you played him knowing he ain’t 100% fit? I swear this guy is clueless.

In a way, this reaction is justified.
Using Pogba against Rochdale was not wrong, but it should have been from the bench, or Solskjaer ought to have taken him off after about an hour.
To use Pogba for the full 90 minutes and refuse to take him off, despite the player picking up a fresh knock, is a decision which simply does not make any sense. Moreover, it could really cost United in a game which they simply have to win.
