Juventus resisted big pressure from Manchester United to sell Douglas Costa according to the player’s agent.
The pacy Brazilian has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for a while now, mostly due to his lack of minutes on the pitch.
Perhaps since Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, Costa has not played as much as he would like having previously been a regular starter and key player for the Italian giants.
Injuries have stalled the versatile attacker’s career of late but the summer transfer window came and left without seeing him leave.
However, that could potentially chance, especially given United’s need to invest in an otherwise thin attacking squad.
According to Sports Mole, Costa’s agent Giovanni Branchini said: “The interest of Manchester United was strong, a club that has always been interested in the Brazilian.
“It was not the only club but in England it was certainly the most active team on the trail of Douglas Costa. Douglas has had countless health problems. Last season he was very often injured.
“He is wanting to recover with great professionalism after standing still. Juventus never intended to sell him despite the big pressure from United. Douglas is a ‘cool’ professional in the best sense of the word. He is able to adapt to everything.
“Premier League is a beautiful championship but for now United have failed in all their attempts to convince Juventus to sell him. The player remained in Turin and is a champion.”
At the moment Manchester United’s right-wing options are fairly limited with Daniel James, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong.
However, it could be argued that none of them prefer playing there and their natural positions are rather elsewhere.
James has shown excellent form from the left with Chong a similar case while the likes of Lingard and Mata are actually attacking midfielders.
Greenwood is a striker being shoved out wide due to a lack of options so investing in Costa would be welcomed to add depth if nothing else.
