Former Manchester United man Edwin van der Sar could reportedly be on his way back to his past former grounds if everything goes to plan.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is believed to have been searching for a director of football for quite some time now with no real end in sight until perhaps now.
The reports that first came out had claimed United wanted to set Ole Gunnar Solskjaer up for a successful future and so would have a director of football hired by this summer to help with transfers.
Unfortunately that didn’t happen and the legendary Norwegian had to navigate the market himself.
Perhaps that’s what ultimate cost Solskjaer as he made only three signings in a transfer window that was meant to spark a rebuild.

There have been question marks over hiring Van der Sar given his role with Ajax is actually as a CEO.
Many also believe he wouldn’t leave a higher position at a better structured club for the chaotic Red Devils.
However, Van der Sar does know Old Trafford inside out and could potentially succeed as a director of football if given the chance.
At this point supporters would probably like to see anyone given a shot at the role as they feel the on the pitch failings stem from the off the pitch mess.
