Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes he’s already seen differences between performances from his side this season and the last.
However, the legendary Norwegian has also warned his stars that there’s still room for improvement despite thrashing Chelsea 4-0.
Solskjaer had previously insisted it would take time to see the team shaped in his image but even last season there were signs of what he was trying to achieve.
United are clearly attempting to play attacking, direct, high-tempo, intense football and because of the fitness needed for such tactics, their form dipped at the end of last season.
Luckily Solskjaer appears to have addressed his players’ lack of fitness in pre-season and they should now go the distance this campaign.
According to Sky Sports, Solskjaer said: “Well we hope so, I know physical stats are not a lot to go from but there is a shift from this first league game and the Chelsea match three games from the end of last season.
“How much more we run now compared to then is encouraging. We’ve got energy, it’s still early doors, and we’re working hard on fitness still.”
Now that Manchester United are back to working hard once more, the question becomes whether they have the quality to challenge for the title.
It’s clear Solskjaer doesn’t have the depth in his squad he wants but it’s also evident he knows just where his squad’s weaknesses are and who the deadwood players are.
After all, the former Molde man moved quick to address the right-back, centre-back and right-wing spots in the summer and those were the main areas of concern for fans.
