Manchester United have reportedly been told how much they need to part with to secure Tottenham star Christian Eriksen, meaning a transfer could potentially be accelerated.
The transfer window slams shut this Thursday, leaving little time to conclude a deal and so executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will have to work quick to bring in some much needed midfield reinforcement.
United have finally resolved some of their defensive weaknesses by securing Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka but their engine room looks shockingly short of depth.
Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera have both left without being replaced and so chasing Eriksen’s signature seems to make the most sense.
Fans may argue that a defensive midfielder is actually more necessary, which is true, but at this point any top talent is needed to add quality to an otherwise lacklustre midfield.
£130m was Tottenham's asking price for Christian Eriksen last year. This year it is closer to £50m. Daniel Levy knows it is his last chance to make money from selling him. #mufc [@JackPittBrooke in The Athletic] pic.twitter.com/wUGn3kzZLy

The question must be asked however, why were Manchester United not working on multiple deals at the same time?
Woodward has seemingly taken his time at signing each target one by one rather than making an approach for all of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s targets simultaneously.
Now with the transfer window coming to a close, any deal United try to conclude will naturally be overpriced due to their desperate nature which can explain the £50m price-tag for a player whose deal expires next summer.
